Rico Nasty ended last year off with the undeniable “Hard” featuring production from Take A Daytrip and music video direction from the Reel Goats. The track mirrored the uptempo aggression that put Kenny Beats and her Anger Management on the map and earned the project a place on The Absolute, Definitive and Correct 25 Best Music Project of 2019 (So Far) . Now Rico returns with a recurring mantra in both her life and music with “IDGAF”.
Her first single of 2020 mirrors themes heard throughout Anger Management , but the instrumental, produced by Rico’s official tour deejay DJ Miles takes a u-turn into the sublime with dreamlike fluttering keys contrasted by hard-hitting bass. Rico showcases her vocal chops too with a smooth and addicting melody proclaiming that she just doesn’t give a f*ck. It’s a 2020 resolution by many, and could serve as a theme song heading into the year for those wishing to copy Rico’s overall outlook on life.
“I pull up and hop out the Mercedes/ Sh*t I used to daydream/ I’m running it up on the daily/ You ain’t on sh*t, you lazy/ Don’t give a sh*t, f*ck you b*tch, pay me/ Smoke so much my vision hazy.” Rico declares on the first verse. “All my bitches got the ball, you the monkey in the middle/ You hoes too small, you b*tch too little/ You n*ggas rats, Stuart Little/ I went and got me some racks, now my pockets bigger.”

Do you want Rico Nasty to tear into every song like a vicious, bloodthirsty killer? Well guess what? She does not give a fuck. As promised , Rico has released a new song today. Titled “IDGAF,” it’s built around softly echoing electric piano sounds and finds the DMV rapper in melodious sing-song mode.
It’s a departure from the sound of last year’s Anger Management and its 2018 predecessor Nasty , but the attitude is the same. Her vocals sometimes revealing flashes of that signature raw intensity, Rico spends most of the runtime freely distributing taunts like, “Me and my bitches got the ball, you the monkey in the middle.” Remember when Drake sweetly cooed, “Bitch, I’m the man”? It’s like that, except delivered by a voice far more ferocious than Aubrey Graham’s.
“Go to sleep with me on loop you’ll feel better in the morning,” advises Rico on Twitter . You can take your first pass on “IDGAF” below.

Today, one of the rappers poised to get a big break in 2020, Rico Nasty , dropped her latest new single, “IDGAF,” a syrupy trap jam that reiterates her life philosophy and advances her promise that “ this my decade .” While the more mellow track is a departure from the raspy-voiced rapper’s last, punk-influenced release, “ Hard ,” it shows off more of her devil-may-care demeanor and in-your-face charisma, proving that she has what it takes to be the face of hip-hop for the next ten years.
It sure doesn’t hurt that Rico was interviewed by Rihanna for the latter’s Rihannazine , a zine-style collection of interviews and editorials co-curated by Rihanna with i-D . In the ‘zine, Rico revealed the secret to her recent resurgence after spending the last few years on the underground circuit: ““I started out being all me, me, me, and then, the more time I spent in the industry, the more I wanted to start building a ladder to help all the other girls that haven’t seen what I’ve seen, because it’s something you want to share with the world,” she revealed. That change in philosophy led to Rico’s participation in a huge wave of breakout female rappers getting mainstream attention, including fellow off-the-wall weirdo Doja Cat, with whom she collaborated on “ Tia Tamera ,” which became a fan favorite. With her major label debut set to drop later this year, be on the lookout for Rico to make some serious noise.
