It's a good series that I enjoyed. As always Brenda Blethyn was wonderful. Her transformation from frigett to hot was great to watch.
Sadly, the product was defective. The second disc would not play. I have returned it and to this date have not received acknowledgement that the product has been returned. I am hoping for a satisfactory settlement in this matter.
Risque and Richard Armitage is the best part!
One couple on the rocks. Another, seemingly solid. (The third not worth mentioning.) Yet, the outcomes are not what one would expect and could not be more fidderent. Fans of British tv and films will not be disappointed by the delivery of this stellar cast of actors.
The series looks at several couples at different points in their relationships. An older couple (married over 25 years), a couple together/not married for less than 10, and a couple still dating. They are connected via family ties or through a sex therapist (but she is one of the couples too). The topics are sexual in nature and deal with miscommunication in the bedroom and out of it, infidelity, and forgiveness. It was suprising to see British actors you generally see in period/costume dramas in their PJs or nothing at all. The series is over 7 years old, but I don't think it is too dated relative to the clothes, cars, and settings. I thought it gave some insight into sex therapy.

the story fell short but the acting was excellent
Alona Cunningham (Julie Graham) is a "sex therapist" trying to sort out the problems of the Delany's, Peter (Alun Armstrong) and Hazel (Brenda Blethyn) while all the time failing to sort out the problems of her own. There are a number of simulated sex scenes and lots of bare backsides in full thrust and flashes of boobs but most seem to have been added for salacious reasons rather than to add to the story. The programme consists of a triptych of interlinked stories. - The main story is about the marriage problems of Hazel and Peter Delany. - There a side story about their son Simon (James Thornton), his ex-fiancé and his new fancy - the manager of the lap-dancing club that Peter owns, Georgia Lovett (Gaynor Faye, daughter of writer Kay Mellor). - Finally add to the mix the problems in Alona's own life. Unfortunately, the story plods along with too many interruptions and bits that slow things down. To be honest I think that the writer, Kay Mellor, had an idea and was then told to stretch it over 6 episodes and this is why it feels boggy and slow at times. It might have been better to abandon the "Delany son" story (it was the weakest for me) and stick more depth into Alona's as her story was just as important as that of Hazel and Peter. There are no subtitles and it is an English only soundtrack. . *** Please be aware - possible SPOILERS below *** Alona is so busy and self-involved that she can't see the flowers for the weeds or more correctly she sees the flowers and thinks they're weeds. There is one thing that you are taught, and it is one of the first things you are taught, when entering the field of psychology and that is to never analyse yourself or your family and close friends - the reason is that you are not a unbiased onlooker and your judgement will not be clear. The second thing is that you have a colleague who you can discuss situations with - this is more to let you blow off steam and voice your concerns and theories. Amazingly this is of great help because when you vocalise what is in your head you can see the stupidity or, less likely, the grace of it with far more clarity. Of course you also have the benefit of the other person's opinion - whether you like it or not! The third thing is that you never, ever, use that colleague for family therapy. These rules are automatically breached - rule one and rule three outright and rule two because Alona is so full of herself she automatically devalues their suggestions and opinions - only she can be right about her family problems (again a breach of rule one). Here Alona decides to analyse why she and partner of 8 years, Paul (Richard Armitage) aren't doing the do anymore. It never seems to occur to her that Paul might have needs above and beyond the physical, and this is where Alona fails. It is all about her needs and demands and to hell with everyone else. We are repeatedly told that Tracey the juvenile troublemaker on probation is beautiful but to be honest I can't see her being pretty enough to have attracted a man in a long term relationship into acts which could get him sacked and possibly jailed. Tracey is played by Vinette Robinson who later went on to play the sarcastic Sgt Sally Donovan in seasons 1 and 2 of Sherlock. To be honest I didn't like the ending - it felt like it was written to justify Alona and prove that her personal insight was true. Yet I know from my own experience that victims of crime can cling to those who show them support and understanding and that support can be (and often is) frequently misinterpreted as something more, even to the extent of believing that the "feelings" were mutual when they were not. Hazel appears to have decided to stay with hubby Peter and not go with her toy boy, and son ... well, I'm not sure what was going on with that one which is why I believe the son's story was added to pad out a 3 or 4 episode story into a 6 episode job. One thing I noticed was that in the video tape of Georgia and "client" she clearly says "Simon" (Peter's son) but when Peter goes to Alona for a session he says it was him (Peter) in the tape. . The acting is excellent from the usual suspects Alun Armstrong, Brenda Blethyn, Julie Graham and Richard Armitage it is just that I felt the story fell short.

DVD Problems Spoiled My Enjoyment
I purchased this DVD from Amazon.co.uk, watched the first disk and then was unable to finish watching the whole series because of problems I had with playing the second DVD - basically it got to a point when it was unplayable. I even tried it on a laptop and a second DVD player - same problem. I returned the DVD, and received a replacement, which suffered from exactly the same problem. So I returned that and now have no DVD of Between The Sheets at all (sob!) I know of at least 6 other people who have also had to return the DVD due to similar problems with it. So my message to potential buyers is - be warned - there is obviously a "bad batch" of this DVD being sold by Amazon. This rating is not against the actual content of the disk which I thoroughly enjoyed (what I saw of it!). I don't want to rate that however, since I haven't seen it all (yet! - still hoping to catch a repeat on TV sometime!)

Great entertainment
Didn't expect to enjoy this series as much as I did .... I should have known I would like it considering the strong cast. I confess, I bought this series because of the extremely talented Richard Armitage and he was, as aways, wonderful. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.
