Frontman Donald Cumming told The New Musical Express January 10, 2009 that this was the first track the band recorded properly in the studio. The trio were inspired by the idea of white guys trying to make disco music. He explained: "Songs like " Emotional Rescue ," " Beast of Burden ," " D'ya Think I'm Sexy " and " Love Is The Drug " were mocked at the time they came out, but they were so good. So, 'Rich Girls' is our attempt at doing that. When our A&R guy heard it, he did a robot dance around the room."
The Twelves remix of this song was featured in a commercial for the clothing company White House/Black Market. In the spot, the model Coco Rocha tap dances on a table while displaying the latest workwear fashions.

I really enjoy listening to this song. It's pretty repetitive, but not in a bad way. I would like it more if it were a bit longer, but that's what the replay button is for, I guess!
This is NOT an explicit version. There is one curse word, "bitch." In this version they replace it with the sound of a car peeling out. This is labeled wrong.
My girlfriend loves this song and now I do.
