The plot, setting and costumes are nearly identical to those of Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus (1960). However, this adaptation follows Howard Fast's novel more closely than does Kubrick's movie. (Two of the more noticeable omissions of the new adaptation are the "I am Spartacus!" scene, and Spartacus and his wife's reunion after battle.) The mini-series is shown as a story as a woman narrates to her son, who are later revealed to be Spartacus' wife and son.
When Spartacus is about to cut Crixus's throat, the fillings in Crixus's mouth are visible.
Different from original, surprisingly good
Goran Visnjic gave a very credible performance as Spartacus. Instead of the superhero-style portrayed by Kirk Douglas (which I happened to LOVE that movie), Goran added more depth to the character ... the strengths AND the weaknesses. I also liked how the show developed his skills as a gladiator by having him do some real fighting rather than how it was done in the original. Crassus (played by Angus MacFadyen) was likewise very three-dimensional. It was a shame that the movie was only 2 hours long (4 hours if you count the commercials). Given more time, it would have been enjoyable to see more of Crassus's political maneuvering. If that character had been born in our century, he'd be king of our country by now. And there were surprisingly strong performances by others in bit-parts, like George Calil as Pompey, Ben Cross as Glabrus, and Henry Simmons as Draba. You can see that they did their homework and put real work into their character developments. All in all, I give it an '8'. I'd like to give it a higher score, but I thought that the fight scenes were less than spectacular. Add a few thousand more stand-ins and maybe it would have been more believable. But I just didn't get the sense of volume that should have been there.

She ultimately managed to join the world of show business and gradually established herself as a model and actress after experiencing significant difficulties in her teens.
She is now well-known and has a large following thanks to her dedication and hard work in the acting industry.
Rhona Natasha Mitra was born on August 9, 1976, in Paddington, Hampstead, London to Nora Downey, an Irish woman, and Anthony Mitra, a cosmetic surgeon of Bengali Indian ancestry.
She has two brothers: Jason, her older brother, and Guyana, her younger brother, who works as a travel journalist for Lonely Planet and The Sunday Times.
When she was just eight years old, her parents separated in 1984, and she was then taken to a boarding school. She attended Roedean, an all-girls school in Brighton, East Sussex.
She was sent out for taking a vehicle to the neighborhood boys’ school. She was labeled a problem and expelled from her next boarding school as a result of complaints from other parents.
She spent several years actively participating in London’s club scene before deciding to pursue acting professionally after becoming interested in it.
She enrolled in a theater school for a three-year program. Just after the first year, when she had enough self-confidence, she began hunting for a job and started acting in the local theater.
Rhona Mitra began her career as a model before transitioning to television in the early 1990s. In 1995, she made her television debut in a minor part in “Ghostbusters of East Finchley.”
She played Sarah Wickes in the television series “The Bill” in 1996 and in the miniseries “The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous” in 1997.
She appeared as Lara Croft, the lead character of the computer game series “Tomb Raider,” in 1997. The emerging model became well-known because of this experience, which offered her broad exposure.
She also pursued a career in music. ‘Getting Naked,’ her first song, was made available in 1997. Both of her studio albums, “Female Icon” and “Come Alive,” were released in 1998.
She played the part of Mollie Jolliffe in the films “Croupier” and “Monk Dawson” in 1998. She had an appearance as Christopher Lambert’s love interest in the movie “Beowulf” the following year. She was named number 46 in the “Maxim Hot 100 Women” in 2001.
She played Dr. Alejandra “Ollie” Klein, the main character in the medical drama series “Gideon’s Crossing.” In the early 2000s, she also acted in films including “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Ali G Indahouse,” and “Stuck on You.”
In the seasons 2003–2004 of “The Practice” and 2004’s “Boston Legal,” she played Tara Wilson, the principal character. She played the main characters in both the film Highwaymen and the television series Spartacus in the same year.
She played Kit McGraw in the third season of the television series “Nip/Tuck” in 2005. Around this time, she also had appearances in the films “Skinwalkers,” “The Number 23,” and “Shooter.”
She appeared as Major Eden Sinclair in the science fiction/action film “Doomsday” in 2008. She portrays Sonja, the undead vampire’s daughter, in the 2009 film “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.”
In 2010, she had appearances in both the suspense movie Stolen and the television series “Stargate Universe.” She played Claire Radcliff in the supernatural power drama “The Gates” on ABC that same year.

Fans of the science-fiction action-drama series “The Last Ship” were left with the big question after the premiere of the third season of the series was released in 2016, when they realized that the character of Doctor Rachel Scott wouldn’t be in the cast anymore. The woman who devoted her time to develop a cure for the virus that wiped out the planet, was killed by the immunes last season but for most of the viewers it was hard to believe that she was really dead.
The actress who portrayed this character is Rhona Mitra, and people wanted to know what happened to her, and why she left the show, however, neither she nor the showrunners have given an official statement.
If you ever wondered what is she doing now, and you want to know more about Rhona Mitra, keep on scrolling through this article, because we will tell you the naked truth about this talented actress, who has nearly 50 acting credits to her name, and besides the mentioned role, is perhaps known best for her role as Tara Wilson in series such as “Boston Legal”, which brought her a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, which she shares with the rest of the cast.
Rhona Natasha Mitra was born under the zodiac sign of Leo on 9 August 1976, in Paddington, London, England, thus she holds British nationality although she comes from a family of Irish, English, Bengali and Indian descent.
Her father, Anthony Mitra is a cosmetic surgeon, but the occupation of her mother, Nora Downey, isn’t revealed; Rhona has two brothers, about whom little is known, except that she’s a middle child.
Their parents divorced in 1984, and Rhona was sent to boarding school; she claims that she was expelled from both she attended.
She attended Roedean, in Brighton, East Sussex, England, and in one of her interviews, she spoke about being expelled from this school saying: ‘I was kicked out for taking a sixth-former’s car and driving it down to the local boys’ school. I was only 14. I left stuffing under my bedsheets but one of my friends told on me and the headmistress tracked me down.’
After her parents transferred her to another school, she said that the other girls would blame her whenever they were caught for something, ‘so all the parents wrote in and said they didn’t want me at the school. I crammed my exams in London and did fine,’ added Rhona.
She had an interest in acting from an early age, and when she was nine, she met Judi Dench, a famous popular actress, mother to one of her classmates, and although she didn’t know that Judi was an actress, Rhona thought that she was an extraordinary woman, and after her friend told her about his mother’s occupation, she decided what she would do when she grew-up. Upon matriculating in 1994, she didn’t enrol in college, but pursued her acting career.
Rhona made her acting debut in 1995, portraying Cass in an episode of the series “Ghostbusters of East Finchley”, followed by her role as Sarah Wickes in “The Bill” in 1996, while in the following year, she was cast to play Flora Seymour in the TV mini-series “The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous”.
In the early 2000s, Rhona was seen in an episode of “Secret Agent Man”, before she was cast to play Holly Marie Beggins in “Party of Five”, and then from 2000 until 2001, she portrayed Doctor Alejandra Ollie Klein in “Gideon’s Crossing”.
From 2003 until 2004, Rhona was seen as Tara Wilson in “The Practice”, concurrently acting in the TV mini-series “Spartacus”, before reprising her role as Tara Wilson in “Boston Legal” through 2005, when she was cast to play Kit McGraw in “Nip/Tuck”.
Rhona’s next major role came in 2010 when she portrayed Commander Kiva in “Stargate Universe”, followed by her role as Claire Radcliff in “The Gates”, and in 2012 and 2013, she was seen as Major Rachel Dalton in “Strike Back”.
One of her most notable roles to date, as Doctor Rachel Scott in “The Last Ship”, came in 2014, and then in the following years after she left the series, Rhona was seen as Charlotte in “The Strain” in 2017, and as Mercy Graves in “Supergirl” in 2018, which was her most recent television role.
Rhona made her first big-screen appearance as a Girl with Joint in the 1998 movie “Croupier”, and the same year, she portrayed Mollie Jolliffe in “Monk Dawson”, while in the following year, she was cast to play Kyra in “Beowulf”, also starring Christopher Lambert and Oliver Cotton.
In 2000, Rhona was seen starring in “Hollow Man” and “Get Carter”, and then two years later, she starred in “Ali G Indahouse” and “Sweet Home Alabama”, followed by her roles in “The Life of David Gale” and “Stuck on You” in 2003, and “Highwaymen” in 2004.
Rhona portrayed Rachel Talbot in the 2006 movie “Skinwalkers”, followed by her roles as Laura Tollins in “The Number 23”, and as Alourdes Galindo in “Shooter” in 2007, while in the following year, she was cast to play Eden Sinclair in “Doomsday”.
In 2009, Rhona was seen as Sonja in “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”, a performance which brought her a nomination for the Scream Award for Best Fantasy Actress; the same year, she acted in “Separation City” and “Stolen”.
In the 2010 movie “Reuniting the Rubins”, Rhona portrayed Andie Rubin, and then two years later, she was cast to play Cameron Grainger in “Crisis Point”, followed by her roles in “The Loft” (2014), “Hard Target 2” (2016), and “Game Over, Man!” and “The Fight” in 2018.
In 2020, Rhona was seen in “Archive” and “Skylines”, while her most recent role was her portrayal of Martha in “The Other Me”, a mystery drama written and directed by Giga Agladze, which was released on 4 February 2022.
Her fans will be happy to hear that Rhona has filmed two new movies, entitled “Prisoners of Paradise” and “Hounds of War”, which are currently in post-production.
There have been various rumors concerning Rhona’s love life, that she was romantically linked to various men from the movie industry, which isn’t surprising since in 2001 she was ranked #46 on the Maxim Hot 100 Women list, and as she said, most of her relationships ended because her partners would become jealous.
She once said: ‘I can’t sit still. That’s why I’m very difficult in a relationship. Men get jealous of me traveling – they don’t understand that just because I disappear on my own doesn’t mean I’m going to shag someone else.’
Speaking of her previous relationships, it’s known that she dated Matt Damon in 2003, and in the same year was in a short relationship with Carl Hagmaier, while in 2005 she was dating John Mayer. Lastly, sometime in 2018 it was rumored that she was seeing Bradley Cooper, however, these assumptions were confirmed neither by Rhona nor Bradley.
As of May 2022, Rhona seems to be single, she hasn’t been married or engaged, and doesn’t have children.
Rhona is 45 years old, with long, dark brown hair, which beside her sultry voice is her trademark; and the color of her eyes is brown. She weighs around 130lbs (60kgs) and is 5ft 6ins (1.68m) tall, with vital statistics of 34-24-34.
According to sources, as of May 2022, her net worth has been estimated at close to $10 million.
