Review Xiaomi Mijia 1T: a novelty with a powerful engine and object identification system 2021.

In November 2020, information appeared about the new Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner, the Mijia line is Xiaomi Mijia 1T Sweeping Robot (STYTJ02ZHM) or, as it is also called, Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro+.

The main interest in this robot is due to two reasons. The first and most important is the presence of a sensor system with a ToF camera on the mechanical bumper, which allows the robot vacuum cleaner to detect objects on the floor and go around them during cleaning. According to the manufacturer, Mijia 1T is capable of detecting wires on the floor, small objects and even surprises from pets. All of this can interfere with cleaning. And secondly, the suction power reaches 3000 Pa, thanks to which the cleaning quality has become even higher. Next, I will examine and test Xiaomi Mijia 1T in detail, after which I will express my own opinion whether it is worth buying this robot vacuum cleaner.Mijia 1C and Dreame F9 . I ordered the robot on Aliexpress in the TookFun store. So let's get down to the review!

Equipment

The package of the Xiaomi Mijia 1T is rather meager. In addition to the robot vacuum cleaner itself, the box contains:

  1. Charging base.
  2. Power adapter with Chinese plug.
  3. Power adapter with European plug.
  4. Operating instructions and a short guide for the first start of the robot in Chinese, because in my case, the version of the robot for the Chinese market.
  5. Center brush cleaning tool.
Equipment

There are no spare consumables in the kit, like most other robots of the Xiaomi family.

Appearance

Consider the appearance of the robot. Xiaomi Mijia 1T is made in black, the body is round. Height 82 mm.

On the top of the control panel there are 2 mechanical control buttons: start / pause and forced return to the base for charging. Next to the buttons is a camera for navigating the robot vacuum cleaner. Thanks to this camera, Xiaomi Mijia 1T builds a room map and stores it in memory, which opens up useful functionality, which I will talk about a little later.

In front of the mechanical bumper, we see a system of sensors for detecting objects on the floor.

Specifications

The main characteristics of Xiaomi Mijia 1T Sweeping Robot, declared by the manufacturer:

  • Li-Ion 5200 mAh battery.
  • Suction power up to 3000 Pa.
  • Working time up to 180 min.
  • Cleaning area up to 240 sq.m.

  • The volume of the water tank is 250 ml.
  • Passage of obstacles up to 20 mm.
  • Dimensions: 350 * 82 mm.

The characteristics are competitive, especially the suction power, which will definitely be checked further.

Functionality

Let's move on to the review of the functions of the Xiaomi Mijia 1T. The robot vacuum cleaner is controlled through the proprietary Mi Home mobile application. After choosing the region of China, the robot also did not connect the first time, but it still managed to connect successfully after several attempts.

App control

On the main working panel, the robot vacuum cleaner builds a map of the room, stores it in memory and zones it into rooms. In the main settings section, you can turn on the map saving mode, set up cleaning according to the schedule, choosing the time, days of the week and the suction power. Unfortunately, it is not possible to select the desired cleaning rooms. In addition, you can turn on the automatic power increase on carpets, the mode of continuing cleaning after recharging at the base, and also select the time when the robot should not bother you.

Additionally, you can turn off notifications and select the language for voice notifications. The Xiaomi Mijia 1T version that came to me for review supports voice notifications in Chinese and English, so it's better to turn them off altogether. Also in the menu there is a cleaning log, a section that displays the status of consumables, manual control mode and a search for a robot vacuum cleaner by a sound signal.

In the area editor, you can connect several rooms into one, or vice versa, divide a room into separate zones. Below is a section that opens the possibility of installing virtual walls, general forbidden zones and forbidden zones on the map only for the wet cleaning mode.

Working with the map

Well, if necessary, you can change the name of the robot, share the control with other users and update the firmware version.

On the main operating panel, the lower two buttons are responsible for starting the automatic cleaning mode and forcing the robot back to the base for charging. When you swipe up on the screen, a window opens to adjust the suction power and the level of water supply to the napkin.

On the map itself, you can also indicate a point for local cleaning with a robot, or select the desired rooms for cleaning.

This is all the functionality of the application, the main features are implemented. It is important to note that the Chinese version of Xiaomi Mijia 1T is not able to connect to Yandex Alice, this must be taken into account.

Let's move on to the tests. The first step is to check the navigation of the Mijia 1T in an obstacle room. First, the robot vacuum cleaner goes through the entire available area with a snake. Thanks to the front ToF sensor, the robot really practically does not touch objects. Separately, he did not sweep around the box and the legs of the chair, but nevertheless made a second pass between the legs of the chair. Not stuck on the legs of the dryer. After traveling the entire area with a snake, Xiaomi Mijia 1T switched to bypassing the perimeter and at the end of the cleaning process returned to the base for charging. Navigation is good, but not the best among chamber robotic vacuum cleaners.

Navigating within a room

Now let's check how well Mijia 1T detects objects on the floor. So, the robot could not identify the sock and as a result chewed it up, after which it could not continue cleaning. I removed it to continue the test. Simulated pet excrement has also not been defined. As a result, the robot more or less well identified the charger wire on the floor, as well as small objects in the form of a sneaker and a toy. Although he still touched them when cleaning.

Identifying objects on the floor

Additionally, I decided to check if Xiaomi Mijia 1T can recognize excrement on a light floor. No, he did not manage to cope with the task even in such conditions. So, in my opinion, the test for identifying objects has failed and I see no point in overpaying for this function in this robot vacuum cleaner.

As for the overall navigation accuracy, there were also problems. The sensor system on the bumper behaves very strangely on fluffy carpets and as a result, the robot's movement algorithm becomes chaotic. You can see it yourself. Hard flooring does not have this problem.

Navigation within the home

In general, the robot was able to go through the entire area, first with a snake, and then around the perimeter, cleaning room by room. But uncleaned areas on the carpet remained, and as a result, the Xiaomi Mijia 1T sensor system harms it more than benefits it. The overall impression of navigation is mostly negative. But the fact that the robot is more accurate than the closest analogues, for example, Mijia 1C and Dreame F9, is a fact. Perhaps the problem with carpets will be eliminated in the future and then I will have no complaints about navigation.

Suction power

As for the suction power, despite the fact that 3000 Pa is declared, the robot is able to suck out debris only from a slot with a depth of 2 mm, so these figures are more likely a marketing ploy. In reality, Xiaomi Mijia 1T sucks up garbage at the level of analogs with a capacity of 2000-2500 Pa.

Suction power

Dry cleaning on laminate

The quality of waste collection on the laminate is above average. True, again, because of the camera, the robot spent more time on unnecessary movements, but the bulk of the garbage was collected. There is only a little debris left in the corners, from which round robots are unable to sweep.

Dry cleaning on laminate

Cleaning the carpet

When it comes to cleaning carpets, the Xiaomi Mijia 1T does a good job of cleaning the carpets. In this regard, there are no complaints.

Cleaning the carpet

Wet cleaning

And the quality of wiping off simple dirt is above average, like other robots in the Xiaomi line. A small area along the baseboard remained uncleaned, but this is a problem for all robot vacuum cleaners at the moment.

Wet cleaning

But for delicate wet cleaning in a house or apartment, this robot is suitable. The napkin is moistened moderately, there are no puddles on the floor, the track is even and, most importantly, there are no streaks after the robot passes. In addition, the robot vacuum cleaner is capable of simultaneously vacuuming and washing the floor. So I count the test.

Passage of obstacles

The obstacle passability is good for this model. The robot moves two-centimeter sills without problems.

Passage of obstacles

Passage of dark surfaces

But Xiaomi Mijia 1T is afraid of the black rug, going around it when cleaning. Unfortunately, this is a problem for all Xiaomi robots.

Passage of dark surfaces

Noise level

Well, in conclusion, let's check the noise level of the Xiaomi Mijia 1T in different modes. At the minimum suction power, the noise level is in the range of 57-60 dB, at standard power it reaches 61 dB. In intensive cleaning mode, the noise level can reach 63 dB, and in Turbo mode, the peak was 65 dB. This robot vacuum cleaner is not very noisy when compared to its counterparts.

Summing up

The Xiaomi Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum Mop 2 Pro + (Mijia 1T) has been reviewed and tested in detail. According to our rating system, he was able to score 57 out of 100 points , and this is 10 points less than the Dreame F9, which was tested earlier and is one of the main competitors at a cost of about 250 dollars. I additionally removed 2 points from Mijia 1T for the poor performance of the application on the Chinese server and the fact that the front sensor system harms this robot more than helps. Let's look at the pros and cons in more detail.

I would like to highlight the advantages of the robot:

  1. Simultaneous dry and wet cleaning.
  2. Roomy dust container and water tank.
  3. Good obstacle passability.
  4. Useful functions when working with the map, namely: support for restricted areas, virtual walls and the choice of rooms for cleaning.
  5. Capacious battery.
  6. The quality of wet and dry cleaning is above average.

As for the shortcomings, there are also a lot of them, and in my opinion they are more significant:

  1. The robot is poor at detecting objects on the floor.
  2. The object identification system degrades the robot's movement algorithm on carpets.
  3. In the Chinese region, the application freezes.
  4. When setting up a cleaning schedule, you cannot select rooms to clean.
  5. Meager equipment.
  6. The robot is afraid of dark coatings.

So, as a result, I see no point in purchasing Xiaomi Mijia 1T for that kind of money. The overpayment is justified by the presence of a system for identifying objects on the floor, when compared with the same Mijia 1C and Dreame F9, which are the main competitors of this model, but at the same time, the algorithm for identifying objects does not work correctly and harms the cleaning process more than helps. And the suction power in reality was not increased.

So I recommend saving money and choosing predecessors, or adding a little and choosing the Dreame Bot L10 Pro , which, at a cost of about 300 dollars, is equipped with a lidar, a 3D sensor that detects objects on the floor much better, and a powerful engine. This makes it a more interesting option for your money.

Well, you can order robotic vacuum cleaners of the Xiaomi family in the Tookfun store on Aliexpress, where I ordered this robot. There were no problems with delivery.
