Reuse beats optimising any single placement

BetterPic

A portrait usually ends up in five places: a company page, a professional profile, occasionally something printed, and a couple of smaller profiles nobody planned for.

Why the same image everywhere wins

Recognition compounds. People knowing it is you before they read the name is worth more than a marginally better headshot in each individual location, and it costs nothing extra.

Where the destinations genuinely differ

A profile picture is scanned small and fast. A printed card puts the face at about fifteen millimetres. A CV photograph is read slowly at full size beside a block of text.

The failure modes are opposite: a CV photograph fails by looking careless, a profile picture by being illegible.

The cheap resolution

Two crops from one frame — one formal, one tight. That covers the two hardest cases, and the same face still does the recognition work everywhere else.

The check that covers all of them

Scale it to profile size, then imagine it printed at fifteen millimetres. A portrait that survives both survives everything in between.
