Respecting players’ opinions,” LG announces permission for Go Woo-seok to go to the big leagues


Professional baseball LG Twins has approved right-hander Ko Woo-seok (26)’s overseas challenge.


The LG club announced through the media on the 3rd that Go Woo-seok "recently received an offer from a major league club according to the posting process, and the LG Twins decided to respect the player's wishes and send him to the major league team that sent the offer."


Go Woo-seok departed for the United States on the 3rd to proceed with his contract, including a medical test.

An official announcement is expected to be made as soon as medical tests are completed.


Previously, Jon Heyman, a major league reporter for the New York Post, reported that Go Woo-seok was close to signing a contract with the San Diego Padres.


The size of the contract has not been disclosed, but it is expected that he will be treated as a sure-win, as he mentioned that he will be 'in charge of finishing it'.

Go Woo-seok appeared in a total of 354 games in the KBO League, recording 19 wins, 26 losses, 139 saves, and an ERA of 3.18.


He pitched 368 1/3 innings, hitting 29 home runs, walking 163, and striking out 401 batters.


He led the league in saves with 42 in 2022.


In the 2023 season, he pitched 44 innings in 44 games and recorded an ERA of 3.68. He hit 2 home runs, walked 22, and struck out 59.


He also participated in the 2019 Premier 12, 2021 Tokyo Olympics, 2023 World Baseball Classic and Hangzhou Asian Games.
