Resilin
Resilin is a disordered protein that provides elasticity and efficiency to insects and other arthropods. It is composed of three segments: a signal peptide, a chitin-binding domain, and a tyrosine-crosslinked segment.
Resilin is defined as an elastic, rubber-like protein found in various insects, characterized by its high resilience and ability to undergo significant elastic strain, primarily located in areas of repetitive motion such as wing articulation and sound production.
Resilin is a native elastic insect protein, which features intrinsically disordered structure, unusual multi-stimuli responsiveness and outstanding resilience.
Within the exoskeleton structures, resilin commonly forms composites together with other proteins and/or chitin fibres. In the last decades, numerous exoskeleton structures with large proportions of resilin have been described. In these structures, resilin has various functions.

Resilin is rich in the amino acids glycine and proline, as are some other structural proteins such as collagen, elastin, and silk fibroin. Resilin contains no hydroxyproline, hydroxylysine, tryptophan, or sulfur-containing amino acids, but does contain two unusual amino acids, dityrosine and trityrosine.
