Intercultural communication and politics in Europe - suggested readings?
The WWII co-operation of exiled political representations assembled in London counts to my research subjects. Hardly a revelation: the picture is complicated, probably little more disappointing than one is likely to expect when entering the ground. In a manuscript which I hope to publish soon I conclude:
"The story sketched in this article documents how difficult it was for small European nations, despite a common enemy and a shared meeting-place, to find solid ground for mutual understanding. ...The activities of the exiles were first and foremost directed to the preservation of their threatened nationsʼ identity, state, cultural or other. Thus, much of the communication between them was condemned to fail or to get lost ʻin translationʼ of cultural codes."
Intercultural communication is no doubt the issue I address here. Unfortunately, most literature I came across studies communication between "Great Cultures". This is still useful but my issue - intercultural communication within one (European, Western) culture - seems to lay pretty below the prevalent level of analysis.
Any reading suggestions? 1900-1950 scope will be appreciated.
Does anybody know any article about 'Turkish Stream' and its affects to Turkish - EU relations in the long run?
I am making a research about the 'Turkish Stream' which is the latest natural gas pipeline between Russia and Turkey. Thank you, Mustafa YÜCE.
Deadline extended (31.03.2021): Special Issue "Regional development and policy in the EU neighborhood countries": Interested in submitting a paper?
Economic policy in the European Union's Eastern and Southern neighborhood is embedded in the frameworks offered by EU's enlargement and neighborhood policies. Under these frameworks, regional development and policy play a significant role, as is evident in the current introduction of the smart specialization approach to regional innovation policy in the Western Balkans, Turkey, Ukraine, Moldova, and Tunisia. Further approaches of regional development relevant to EU enlargement and neighborhood countries include the LEADER/CLLD approach, and building capacities in organizations such as regional development agencies according to experiences made in EU member states represents an important complement for the introduction of policy approaches. In this context, the special issue seeks contributions that deal with aspects of regional analysis, policy approaches, and institutional or organizational questions in EU enlargement or neighborhood countries and their regions.
Does the EU still have a democratic deficit?
More than 3yrs after the entering into force of the Lisbon Treaty what would be your opinion? Do we still have a democratic deficit in the EU?

What about German-Russian relations and the Putin's proposed free trade area

Both Rapproachement and Just Free Trade
I agree with you. However, rapprochement should be a precondition for free trade. German and European were designed to prevent the drifting apart. Otherwise, there is a risk of a drift apart, between European and German approach towards Russia.

Call for Applications: Peace Revolution Fellowship for Educators opens until April 15, 2011!
Peace Revolution is pleased to announce a new fellowship program for educators worldwide, to be held between July 11 and July 25, 2011. If you are an educator to college students or to high school seniors, you are cordially invited to apply.
Because the future lies in the hands of today's younger generations, teaching is the most important profession in shaping the course of the world. Good teachers can help students develop academically and professionally, but only great teachers can inspire them to effect positive changes in the world. Good teachers can guide their students in building great technological advances, but only great teachers can ensure that such advances are being used for good. Students’ development of practical knowledge must go hand-in-hand with their development of ethical standards. We at Peace Revolution believe that such ethical standard come naturally to those with clarity of mind, and such clarity of mind arises from stillness within. That’s why our concept of “World Peace Through Inner Peace” was formed, and it is very much applicable to the development of ethical standards for younger generations.
How? You can see for yourself at the Peace Revolution Fellowship Program for Educators. During this fellowship, participants will learn basic meditation techniques to develop their clarity of mind. You will then get to explore the link between clarity of mind and the development of ethical standards. Participants will also contribute through discussions on how to promote and incorporate such standards in the education of young adults.
Peace Revolution is a project that aims to provide a new paradigm-shift on the peace building process by means of the Inner Peace Time (IPT) and engaging young peace activists through online social media. Our IPT method is designed for all people, regardless of nationality, race, or religion. It is a universal tool in dealing with problems ranging from stress, depression, family issues, to global crises at large.
The Peace Revolution Fellowship covers the costs related to accommodation, food and local transport during participants’ two-week stay in Thailand. There may also be limited support for air travel for applicants with limited financial resources; however, Peace Revolution cannot pay for participants’ visas, health or travel insurance.

Do you think that power is changing among international actors?
Given the rising level of multilateralism and consolidation of international organization, which makes it more difficult to engage in military combat. Also taking into consideration nuclear weapons and problems such food and energy security.
What is the role and what can we learn from the many failures of and in 'development'?
A recent article from the New York Times (http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/11/28/the-power-of-failure-2/?_r=0) suggests that failures can be catalysts for innovation and improvement in development. However how do failures weigh in, when we consider wider discourses, relations of power and political operations that cannot be disconnected from development? Are failures symptoms of wider, underlying issues? Or they do they distract us from wider, deeper issues?
Where can I find the most up-to-date information on current EU Peace Operations (data and stats)?
I am looking for realiable data and statistics on current EU Peace Operations, specially in subsaharan Africa (EUTM Mali, EUCAP Sahel, EUFOR RCA...). Also about Member States operations in Africa (France's Serval-Barkhane and so on).
