Repairing Your Hybrid Car

Changing disc brakes is one of those jobs. Not all vehicles are the same, so before you start removing parts from your car, make sure you inspect the entire area to be worked on for any issues that you might run into. Unfortunately you cannot always make a determination of problems until you have started removing the old parts. I also recommend starting the job when you have a couple days off from work. Then if you do run into a snag you will have time to get the necessary parts or help before you have to return to work. I have changed the brake pads on all my vehicles since I owned my first car nearly 35 years ago. Disc brakes have always been extremely easy to change. Drum brakes are more difficult and will not be discussed in this article.

pick n oull There are more and more government auctions taking place in our country, but other kinds of auctions have increased too. Today there is so much competition in the used car market, but good-as-new cars and boats are constantly getting seized by the government, so you can always get a deal at a government auction.

pick a part For parts that are large, some auto salvage yards will haul them for you. This is something to ask when you make the phone call. Some people will buy the entire vehicle in order to scrap it themselves. Other parts such as trunk lids, hoods, door panels, and roofs can be too large for some to haul as well. If pick n pull need them to haul it for you, ask them how much they will do it for. Make sure that you comparison shop if you feel the price is too steep. If no one else can do any better or they don't have the part, you can always call them back and tell them you will be there to make the purchase. You are not obligated the moment you make the phone call.

pull a part Choosing a board: wider boards are going to be easier to ride for beginners. The surface area of a wakeboard is what accounts for the speed difference when pulling a skier vs. pulling a boarder.

To change the rotor you will need to remove the caliper bracket. The caliper bracket is held to the front housing assembly by two more bolts. Remove those two bolts and then pull off the caliper bracket. The rotor should now just fall off. You may need to smack it a few times with a hammer to get it to come loose. The rotor and brake pads are now removed. Now you need to start replacing parts. The first part to put back on is the rotor. If the old rotor was difficult to remove, place some Permatex Anti-sieze compound on the back of the new rotor before placing it back on the hub assembly. This will ensure that you don't have a problem getting the rotor off the next time you do a brake job.

Presto... the problem was fixed. I was outraged that the dealer was going to charge her $220 when a simple $3 part fixed the problem. I went down there and complained bitterly and they refunded her diagnostic charges anyhow.
