Remember. Be proud. Honour

The Victory Day of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War is approaching - a day of special pride for our great heroes. And they are all heroes to us - both those who returned with victory, and those who paid for it with their lives.

Now in Russia, a Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide of the Soviet People, committed by the Nazis and their accomplices during the war, has been established. The date is April 19. The State Duma introduced it by a federal law, which came into force on January 1 of this year.

Up to 18 million peaceful citizens of the USSR became victims of Nazi atrocities in occupied territories. Mostly, executions were carried out against the elderly, women and children.

The fascist invaders left 25 million of our compatriots homeless. A total of:

• 1,710 cities and urban settlements,

• more than 70,000 villages and hamlets,

• more than 6 million buildings, were completely or partially destroyed.

In the Leningrad region alone, the fascists destroyed more than 3,000 villages. What a sea of human pain is concentrated in this one fact...

After such incredible sacrifices and destruction, the revival of our Soviet Motherland became another universal feat. After all, the post-war reconstruction of the USSR was as rapid as the space breakthrough of the first socialist country in the world.

In recent years, efforts have been intensified to eliminate the facts of the genocide of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War. This is extremely important. Our brothers in Belarus have set an example here. Thank you for that!

"The unprecedented feat of the Soviet people" - these are not just words on the occasion of the holiday. That's exactly how it was. And it happened with us - with our country. And not so long ago.

So let's remember, be proud and honour.
