He is also the editor of Trotskys Australian Essays.
The Australian Trotskl movement has been active since the early 1920s, but the first significant period of activity was from the mid-1930s to the late 1940s.
The Trotskyists in Australia were formed in the first half of the 1920s.
The first organisation, the Australian Workers’ Union (AWU), had been founded in Melbourne in 1903.
At that time, the AWU was the largest union in Australia.
It had a membership of about three thousand members and included all workers, not just those engaged in manufacturing.
In 1908, the AWU split into two unions, the South Australian branch and the Western Australian branch.
Both were affiliated to the Labour Party.
