Reduce Windows 10 Internet Data Consumption

Bazemaster

It is a known issue that Windows 10 internet data consumption is very high. It automatically downloads any available update whenever you have an internet connection on your computer. You can limit how Windows 10 take your internet data on your computer. This post is a simple summary of how to stop Windows 10 from consuming your internet data on computers.

Ways To Stop Windows 10 Internet Data Consumption

1. Set your connection as metered.

This will not allow any updates on your computer. This will limit background updates and only Apps that you have installed will take your internet data. Connect your internet through WiFi > Click on the connection > click Properties > scroll down and click on "Set as metered connection". OR Click on Start >> Settings >> Network & Internet >> WiFi >> Manage known networks >> click on the saved WiFi network >> click on Properties and turn on Set as metered connection.

2. Turn off background apps

Some Applications run in the background. This takes up a large chunk of Windows 10 internet data. Turning them off is a sure way to limit internet data consumption. Click on Start >> Settings >> Privacy >> scroll down to Background apps >> click to turn off some/all the Applications.

3. Disable Automatic Peer-to-Peer Update Sharing

Windows 10 automatically uses your Internet connection to upload Windows and app updates to other Windows 10 PCs. Windows 10 won’t upload updates if you set a connection as metered, but you can also turn it off directly. Click on Start >> Settings >> Update & Security >> Windows Update >> click Advanced options >> click Choose How Updates are Delivered >> select PCs on My Local Network or disable it.

4. Turn Off Sync Settings

To do that, Go to Settings >> Accounts >> Sync your settings >> click to toggle Sync settings off.

5. Save Data on Web Browsing

Use web browsers that have built-in compressing and ad-block features. They will save a lot of internet data for you.

6. Disable OneDrive

To disable OneDrive, right-click the Taskbar and click Task Manager or press ctrl+shift+esc. Scroll to find OneDrive, click to select it and click on End Task at the bottom. This will close it for that session.

7. Disable Startup Applications

Open Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc) or right-click the Taskbar and click Task Manager >> Startup Tab >> Select any application and click Disable. Learn how to add local languages on Windows 10.
