Oh, I’ve always had a thing for red-headed men, always. I ended up marrying a dark-haired guy in the end, and both my kids inherited his colouring (I’m a blonde), but somewhere at the back of my psyche the “thing” for redheads lives on! Thomas Knights has put together a fantastic film and photo exhibition called ‘RED HOT’, showcasing the attractiveness of red-haired men. By placing ginger guys in this positive light, Thomas hopes to reinvent the stereotype surrounding red-headed men. “In the UK and throughout the world, being ginger and male comes with many stigmas attached,” he explains. “Many are bullied at school and for some, even later in life.
As far as I can see, no one has focused (or noticed) the huge, polarised gap between the way our society perceives red-headed women (often the ultimate woman – think Jessica Rabbit) and red-headed males (often emasculated and de-sexualised in film and TV – no Hollywood heroes – no leading men). No other hair colour has this level of gender inequality in any society, and RED HOT holds a mirror up to the pre-conceived limitations we put on the red-headed males.”
Thomas has even launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the RED HOT project and take the exhibition around the globe. Ultimately, he wants to start a dialogue that encourages red-headed boys and prevents bullying. “My aim to flip the negative ginger male stereotype on its head, and showcase ginger guys as leading men, as alpha male types.”

Me, too! I love redheaded guys. I also married a dark-haired guy, but the guys I always chased before I married had red hair, and I still have a thing for them. I’m talking coppery, flaming in the sun red. One guy I dated had that type of red and on top of that it was curly. I like the pale skin and freckles, too. This particular guy was also tall and built. God-like.
