I sincerely hope he is OK. Seems like he is doing through some really rough emotional things, and it doesn't help unstable people to hear terrible things being said about them all over the internet...
Tume is a cool guy, hung out with him a few times at events, and I think he can be a funny, nice, and entertaining dude. He's also slightly better than me at SC2. >.<
He talks about you a lot on his stream. What he said to you at MLG he is extremely embarrassed about. It's one of those things that pile up on top of everything else when you're thinking about killing yourself and how shitty of a person you are.
Yeah I kept telling him it was just funny, everyone is silly when they're drunk. I really took no offense. He's too hard on himself IMO, then he drinks, then he acts like a fool. Rinse. Repeat. >.<
"With both my streaming and my interviews ... there's not a lot of money to be made from ESports. I tried for a month ... a full on month, streaming 8 hours per day, I couldn't even pay my bills. So, there's not that much money in ESports. "
Who the hell are you, and why would anyone want to watch your stream? Why do you expect that putting a stream up will pay your bills? Why do you assume that just because you didn't make it, the whole industry is lacking? There is a ridiculous sense of entitlement here.
A whole 8 hours for a month man, life is so hard, seriously much more interesting people stream everyday for a year and barely break hundreds of viewers, it's depressing watching people who don't appreciate how lucky they got that their life is hard.
She's stating facts, she's not being unappreciative... you can look at the factual cost of living and decide objectively that eSports is not a choice without immense risk and tons of work. Even then, you'll make a very unstable amount of money with no fall back plan and barely skirt by in your bills.
As someone who knows her personally, she VERY MUCH SO feels extremely lucky to be where she is and has put her heart and soul in it as well.
Pretty much all of her "complaints" are just over-sensitivity and hypocrisy. Girls are naturally going to get more attention only because of their gender because there are such few girls in the industry. You get more stream numbers and followers just because your a girl, and this is a problem? Should be more grateful than anything.
The discrimination thing is just stupid as fuck. She doesn't understand the concept of internet anonymity. She actually takes stream comments like "omg tits" seriously. On top of that, in all of her videos, she shows off 10 inch cleavage and expects people not to say anything.
This whole topic is so fucking stupid. Girls in e-sports are praised, not discouraged...
LOL, you obviously did not listen to the video, because I have never once taken things like "OMG tits" seriously. I talked about the difference between standard internet anonymous trolls and people who are actual contributing members of the community who make the content women create completely invalid or controversial for no reason.
This is why I didn't wanna do the topic in the first place. I knew people would take it for what it's NOT--my feminist plea for people to stop harassing me personally because I sexualize myself... >.>
Backstory: Someone asked me if I had a "swag overload" on stream, and I replied, "yes, I have a swag overlord!" followed by consuming giggles at my failed speech.
-It's definitely pretty obvious that Tara loves gaming and wants to be active in the SC2 community (the alternative being she's just another attention-seeker). I point to the fact that she actively seeks and develops friendships with other women in the community (constructive), rather than viewing them as competition (competitive).
-It's not a secret that Tara plays up the Supermodel Nerd bit, guys. It's clearly written on her twitchtv stream. The issue you may have with that is (in addition to the whole "fashionistas vs gamer culture" bit which I'll totally concede I think is valid) that you're approaching Tara's stream and content in the same way you're approaching a GM progamer's stream- I obviously can't speak for you, but based on a lot of the comments in this thread it seems like viewers are looking to Tara's channel for keyboard-blazing APM and pro-level game knowledge. That is not her content. The content you'll find on her channel is better defined as novelty- much like a lot of what Husky does (Bronze League Heroes, all units have blink, etc). It's entertainment ...ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?? (had to)
-More on the fashionista vs gamer culture issue: totally valid, but I think it's a retaliation that everybody needs to do some soul-searching to get past. SC2, and gaming in general, has become an increasingly totally valid avenue for people to develop interpersonal relationships, so the onus is no longer on you to worry about the expectations of people who don't understand :)
-Tara's stream is fun to watch because she's a beautiful woman (read: totally smokin' hot bodacious babe, yo) who plays games casually and is almost as witty and fun as I am. Watching her stream is like taking a break from laddering or watching DH Valencia to play star strikers and talk some shit for a bit.
-Tara's a model, MaximusBlack is funny, Husky is crazy...they all fall into the same category.
-More on women in gaming: bring em on, we're all playing by the same rules here. They better get good or free ladder points for me :)
I whole-heartedly love this comment. It outlines a point I have been trying to make for a while. I also would love to improve my gameplay too, of course! :)
Whether you're doing it on purpose or not isn't really the point. The point is that the way you look attracts viewers. I'm not saying you're some deceitful wench trying to trick people. Man, semantics is hard sometimes.
It's not semantics when the whole debate is whether I am (and all women "like" me are) some parasitic whore using the community, or whether it's just (like I said in the video) an unchangeable fact that being an attractive female in eSports will help boost your visibility in the scene, but in the end, the content is what keeps people coming back.
Thanks so much for having me on the show! I think it was great to be a part of this kind of platform and let people know a little bit more about prejudices and views of others in eSports.
I really liked our extended lineup of people, too. Lots of fun! :)

It looks like you aren't allowed to do that.
