I made real money right off the bat. It stopped being fun for me so I stopped, but I never had a problem with not making money. I went on mostly at night, a couple hours here and there. I would sometimes stay on for 6 hours or more if I was really busy, but It got really boring and let's face it you can't play with yourself for that long before it starts to hurts. My advice is be super friendly and animated.
