FYI, every weekend there is a practice fox hunt in Richardson, TX (north of Dallas)
I made a program for simple radio control on Windows. Its all over an audio interface like a signalink or digirig. Has the option to pre-record messages, generate live tts, schedule messages, and more. It's Windows only, but I need testers if anyone's willing!
I can hear the repeater very clearly but someone reported kerchunking when I transmit.
Just passed my Technician Exam! Looking at radios and this one seems too good to be true. Thoughts?

The Richardson Wireless Klub sponsors practice fox hunts with one transmitter on 144.5 MHz and one transmitter on 433.25 MHz. These operate Saturday morning through Sunday evening. You log your find using a smart phone and the QR code on the hidden transmitter. The hunting is receive-only so anyone can participate.
I was camping over the weekend and discovered I could hear a local repeater quite clearly. After listening for a while to make sure I wasn’t barging in on someone, I tried calling CQ a few times with a couple minutes break between calls. Then some older sounding dude gets on and said “you sure like to kerchunk this repeater”. So I stopped making calls and gave up playing radio for the day.
Im still pretty new to ham radio so my radio theory/etiquette is still somewhat weak. Was my HT radio (GS-5B with Nagoya 771) simply not powerful enough (or near enough line of sight) to transmit voice but had a strong enough signal to activate the repeater, thus the report of kerchunking? Or was that guy just unhappy I was calling CQ on the public repeater? Or did I break ham etiquette by calling CQ on a public repeater?
Heya! just passed my technicians Licensing exam yesterday, and while i wait to pay the fee, me and a HAM friend were looking at radios, and we discovered this one that seems way too good to be true for the Price, and it has some really useful nifty features for a handheld (like USB-c and fast charging) on the go. does anyone have any experience with this brand and radio? are they legit?
Hello everyone, let me post some background before I ask my questions! I am a Brit living in the US, I moved here from Kent, about 10 years ago for work, first to NJ and for the last 4 years I have been in the Nashville area in TN. When I lived in the UK I was and still am licensed amateur radio operator. The last time I called CQ was probably about 20 years ago!
Recently I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and since that time I have been trying to find hobbies that are engaging and help with my symptoms, FPV drones and RC planes being king of the hill, they really help. Just lately though I have really had the urge to get back in radio. Unfortunately I live in a HOA development, so I don't think I will be doing anything from home, but I do think I can have some great fun going mobile, at least that's what I initially want to do. So on to my questions.
I have ordered some study material, I was wondering though, how different are the exams from the UK exams? I don't want to show up to an exam sitting and try my luck, I do want to get an understanding back. My only concern is that I know the exam process will stress me out, making my symptoms worse, I just wanted to get an idea of how difficult it is.
Next one is about equipment. What's the best mobile radio these days that covers all the bands? and also is there an antenna setup that does not bolt directly to the outside of a vehicle? I ask this because I lease a pickup and I don't think they will appreciate it going back with holes in it :)
Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.

My brother has been with his girl for almost 18 years. She's never showed him much respect and often critical of him. My brother can be difficult so I've always tried to see both sides and they seemed happy enough with two kids (now 13 and 16) so never said much and stayed out of it. We first found out she cheated in 2015 and it happened a couple times since. They worked it out, although I told my bro maybe just end it since she's not nice to him anyway, she's obviously not happy. Things seemed good for several years until about 2 months ago. She's cheating again, but more blatant than ever. She regularly takes off to sleep with this other dude, then comes home around 5am and crawls back in bed with my brother. He will get up a go sleep on the couch. I don't know how he's dealing with this week after week. Recently my 13yo niece got suspicious and looked on her mom's phone and found ALLLL the evidence she needed to confirm her fears were true. She confided in me she knows and is sad, scared, pissed...mostly confused. My niece is reading her mom and this dude talk all kinds of crap about her dad and plan to meet on the regular now. It's unnecessarily mean and hurtful the things they say. And a seriously toxic situation all around I told my niece she can't keep doing this forever and she needs to stop and should let her dad know she knows. I understand her needing proof and her want for receipts, but obviously this isn't great for anyone involved. I've encouraged her to be honest and speak her truth and that I would be there to support her if she wants. So far she doesn't want to, she's scared I'm sure. As her aunt and as a sister who loves her brother, I don't know what (if any) my involvement should be. I don't want to break trust with my niece, but I also am not down with secrets and lies. My niece knows I won't lie for her, she understands that. If I'm asked about it I'll tell the truth. What I really want to do is confront my SIL for being a home wrecking, crap talking, spoiled, selfish POS who can't not be a ho....but I digress. Right now, I don't know what to do with the information I have. How do I support my niece, nephew and my brother through this? Or at the very least draw a boundary on the ridiculous nonsense going on? And yes, he obviously needs to leave her ass and that's what we all tell him, but he hasn't yet so here we are. Ultimately, I know it's not my circus not my monkeys, but we are close and I want to be there in an appropriate way.
