A red vagina is almost always a sign of irritation. Irritation can come from many things, so it's sometimes hard to pinpoint the cause. You'll be surprised what some of the most common irritants are.
Infections
Vaginal infections like yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis can cause a red vagina as one of the symptoms. If the cause is an infection, redness will be accompanied by other symptoms like burning, itching, and strong-smelling discharge. Infections occur when something throws off the balance of healthy and unhealthy bacteria in the vagina, so many things that would cause redness on their own can also contribute to infections, which will of course worse the problem. Treating the infection will relieve your symptoms, including a red vagina area.
Hygiene products
In a perfect world, products designed for use in sensitive areas would actually contain gentle ingredients. However, this isn't always the case. Many tampons, pads, pantyliners, and other products meant to be in close contact with the vagina contain fragrances and dyes. These are often produced using harsh chemicals that can irritate the skin and cause you to have a red vagina. Itching and burning may also be present. Hygiene products that irritate your vagina need to be eliminated and replaced with plain white, unscented products.
Soaps
Some soaps, usually the fancier varieties, are irritants as well. If a soap contains exfoliating beads, mineral-infused pearls, chunks of flowers, or anything like that, it's probably not suitable for use on such a sensitive area. Bubble bath often causes irritation, including a red vagina, in young girls. Another thing to look into is the type of detergent you use. Very concentrated detergents can leave residue on clothes even after rinsing. Washing your underwear in a harsh detergent, then wearing it later, can irritate your vaginal area. Fixing problems with any of these products is as easy as replacing them with a gentler variety.
Douching
Douching is meant to be healthy for the vagina. To put it bluntly, it isn't. Using a douche does rid your vagina of bacteria, but unfortunately, it gets rid of both healthy and unhealthy bacteria. This can make you more susceptible to infections because there's nothing left to stop the growth of bad bacteria. The ingredients of some douches can be irritating to the vaginal area itself, causing red vagina as a symptom.
Other than eliminating the source, there isn't much you can do to treat vaginal redness. So i decided to look at myself and it was after i had sex and the whole outside area of my vagina was red , and it is irritating. Its been two days now and its still red, it calmed down a little but its still very red and it's very sensitive. Is this bad? Will this go away soon, or should i see a doctor?

I am have red discoloration of the area outside my vagina ...its not the lips of the vagina, its moreso the area right where the thigh meets the vagina and the area moving closer towards my anus (i think its called the perineum area). Okay so my family Dr's office said that I could just be red down below because of the amount of blood that has to run through my body during pregnancy. She also said that even though I still have a milky discharge that it doesn't look unhealthy and chlamydia should have cleared up so it may be discharge that some pregnant women get during pregnancy. ABOUT 2 DAYS AGO WHEN I WAS HAVING SEX, MY VIGINA WAS BURNING. AND NOW AFTER I GOT OUT THE BATH TUB I LOOKED AT MY VIGINA AND IT WAS BRIGHT RED INSIDE AND IT WAS ITCHING. DO ANYONE KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE?

Sound's to me like you have a yeast infection. If that is the case try your hardest not to scratch, it will only make it worse, You can go to walmart and get medication for it. Hope this helps..........

Maybe you are allergic to condoms? Was there one involved? If so.. start using lameskin ones. Although i believe they dnt have spermaside on them.

I'm not certain that I'd recommend Lamskin condoms, as they may not be effective in either contraception nor preventing disease transmission. If you're possibly allergic to the laytex in condoms, try the polyurathane condoms that are specifically marketed to those allergic to laytex. Most condoms that might have had the spermacide Noxinal-9 have been removed from the market place, but many women reported irritation when using these. The world health organization has also issued a proclamation against this spermacide and condoms that used it. Hope this helps to clarify.

if there is a bit of white discharge some say it resembles cottage cheese, then it could be yeast, but if it is red, it could just be irritation, our vagina is such a sensitive part of our bodies, so we have to be careful of any heavy perfumed, or dyed products we use down there. so it is either yeast, or just irritationn , hormones can also play a part in what the body goes through.

Wat kinda medication should i get for it at walmart?
