The woman had waited years to become sexually active, only to end up with an upsetting discovery when she had unprotected sex.
It’s one of the biggest sexual myths out there: That only “immoral” people get sexually transmitted infections (STI).
The misconception is one doctors like Ginni Mansberg are keen to stamp out, as in reality STIs can be contracted by anyone and have “got nothing to do with morality”.
Dr Mansberg has worked as a Sydney GP for almost 30 years and told news.com.au podcast Kinda Sorta Dating some of the people she sees diagnosed with STIs would be considered the “most conservative” members of society.
“I am thinking of one girl who waited until she was 29 to lose her virginity to her boyfriend, who she was with for six months before they took a condom off, Dr Mansberg told host Jana Hocking.
“She got a triple whammy – she got chlamydia, herpes and an abnormal Pap test in one go, but you cannot call her a fallen woman.”
Who gets a STI had “nothing to do with morality and it’s got a lot to do with luck”, Dr Mansberg said.
One STI was so common, it was easier to assume most people you met have it – herpes. Dr Mansberg said that around one in eight people have been diagnosed with the virus at some point.
“Herpes, oh my goodness, I diagnose that all the time,” she said. “Herpes is super common.”
There was also a surprise rise in STI diagnoses in one age group: middle-aged people who find themselves single for the first time in decades.
“They have forgotten the whole condom thing, they’re used to not wearing a condom, “ Dr Mansberg said.
“We’ve been seeing a big uptick in newly single women and men – unfortunately it’s more women because men really don’t get a lot of symptoms from a lot of these STIs so for better or for worse these blokes they often spread it around.”
Sex columnist Nadia Bokody says making this one innocent error could cost you an embarrassing trip to the emergency room.
Pillow talk is common – but what we all whisper to lovers between the sheets varies. Now a study has revealed what most men will say.
Sydney escort Ryan James has seen a noticeable change in the women seeking out his services – and his clients aren’t who you might expect.

Losing virginity is a huge issue, especially in a country like ours. After your first sexual intercourse, you may have plenty of concerns about your body. Other than the hymen, which does not end up ‘breaking’ in most cases, there are many other changes that a woman’s body goes through post their first sexual experience. Here are some of them:

VAGINAL CHANGES: The elasticity of your vagina changes after you start having sex. Since the vagina is still getting used to this new activity you have introduced to your body, it takes some time for the vagina to become used to penetration. However, this gets better with time. Even how your vagina lubricates itself will change over a period of time.
CLITORIS AND UTERUS KNOW WHEN TO CONTRACT AND EXPAND: When in an arousal position, your clitoris will swell up and the uterus will rise a bit. After some time, your body will become used to sex and every time you arouse, your otherwise inactive clitoris and uterus will go through these transformations and return to normal post the act.
BREASTS BECOME FIRMER: During and after sex, the tissues in your breast swell up and the blood vessels dilate leading to firmer breasts. But, this goes back to normal post sex and is only a temporal state.
Vasocongestion is actually is the swelling of bodily tissues which is caused by increased vascular blood flow which leads to breast, nipples, labia and clitoris becoming enlarged. During this sexual arousal, well-oxygenated blood is supplied to your genitals and breasts. As a result, the outer lips, inner lips and clitoris may begin to swell and your heart rate and blood pressure may also increase momentarily.
Yes, you read that right. This is actually one of the hidden yet truly amazing benefits of losing your virginity. When you have sex for the very first time, it may have a direct impact on the glow on your face-- especially if the act finished with an orgasm. The logic is simple, when you have sex, it improves your blood circulation, which helps in pumping oxygen to your skin, giving it that heavenly, youthful glow. Also, when you have sex, your brain releases happy hormones like Serotonin and Oxycontin, which help in cutting down the stress levels and make you feel relaxed. The result? You get clearer-looking skin with a lit-from-within glow.
NIPPLES BECOME MORE SENSITIVE IN GENERAL: Once you start indulging in sex, your body goes through a variety of new experiences. The blood circulation around your nipples increases and the muscular tension increases making them tender than usual.
HAPPY HORMONES: Happy hormones are the reason for that glowing skin. As a result, the feel-good hormone of your body, serotonin, gets secreted. Other than this, when you orgasm, it releases another hormone known as oxytocin, which makes you feel happy and relaxed.
DELAY IN PERIODS: Since your hormones get active, there are chances your period may get delayed. Fret not, this is not a pregnancy alarm but rather your body's way of telling you that its going through changes.

EMOTIONAL ISSUES: Post losing your virginity, you may have emotional outbursts, both happy and sad. This is due to the hormonal changes and can make you feel extremes of either of the emotions.
Remember, everyone's first time is a different experience, but it is important to use protection to prevent pregnancy and STDs. When you have sex for the first time, it may hurt or feel uncomfortable, due to the lack of lubrication, owing to the friction. If sex continues to be painful for you, you can either try different angles or positions to reduce the discomfort and ask your partner to go slow when it comes to penetration. Always seek an expert advice if sex continues to remain painful.
Losing one's virginity holds great significance for some. But it is important that you do not lose your rationality in that excitement. Make sure you practice safe sex by using a condom, dental dams, and/or latex or nitrile gloves.
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) may lead to poor quality of life, making you more prone to reproductive problems in the future.

Virginity has always been a controversial topic in our country. It is needless to say that our country still judges a girl on the basis of her virginity and moreover applies absurd logic of theirs to determine whether the girl is virgin or not. I met some men who think otherwise, not only do they rubbish the whole idea of judging women on the basis of their virginity, they went a step ahead and said that they would enjoy having sex with non-virgins over virgins any day. When we spoke about having multiple partners they unanimously agreed to the fact that it is funny how having multiple sexual partners is looked down upon as something to be ashamed about.

Mukesh says, "I believe it is much easier and satisfying to have sex with someone who isn't a virgin, it cuts down so much effort!", he laughs. Men we spoke to want to tell all the girls who feel that losing virginity has made them any way lesser than the other, that they should stop thinking that way because they feel most boys in fact like non-virgin girls.

"Trying to have sex with a virgin hurts both the girl and the guy. To have sex with a virgin girl, it takes many days of pain to finally make it into her. Seeing the girl scream in pain and not enjoy that much is not a pleasant sight", says Sricharan. "I don't understand why some people create so much fuss about a girl being a virgin, maybe it's the mentality they carry.I believe that such expectations are baseless. Everyone is free to do whatever they want and if they want to get married to someone, being a non-virgin doesn't make any difference in their dedication level."he concluded. Chandan, who is happily married says,"Women or men irrespective of their virginity shouldn't be judged on their virginity. And if one is a non-virgin and speaks about it, he/she is more real.If you think about the physical aspect of it,it is any day it is easier and more pleasure-deriving to have sex with non-virgins". People, irrespective of their gender, shouldn't feel guilty of having lost their virginity, you may want to read Do women still feel guilty about losing their virginity?
With the virgins they believe it is only the first few attempts that would be a problem. To conclude they unanimously agreed to the fact that one can't be judged on the basis of virginity and shouldn't be ashamed of losing it, irrespective of being a girl or a boy. What are you thoughts about this whole debate? Put them down in the comments section below.(Read: Do all virgins bleed the first time they have sex? )
