A MAN adopted at birth confessed to his wife that he'd fallen in love with his own biological mum and had 'mind-blowing' sex with her several times.
The shocking affair between Ben Ford, 32, and his mum Kim West, 51, came to light in 2016 when the pair revealed they were having an incestual relationship - 30 years after Kim gave up her son for adoption.
The mother and son, from Michigan , described having 'incredible and mind-blowing' sex with each other before he was finally forced to confess his true feelings to his wife, Victoria.
On a quest to find his biological family, Ben wrote a letter to Kim before they were reunited in 2014 and their illicit relationship began.
Ben told his wife at the time: "Every time I have had sex with you since I met her, I imagine it's her I am kissing, otherwise I can't perform."
Victoria had already grown suspicious of the pair's close bond and branded Kim 'the mummy girlfriend'.
But nothing could have prepared her for the shocking news when she was told by her husband that he was leaving her for his own biological mother.
The couple were forced into hiding by a Michigan state law that meant that they could face up to 15 years in prison and be placed on a Sex Register for life.
Kim, who grew up in Islington London, fell pregnant while studying in California at the age of 19.
She decided to give up the baby for adoption before heading back to the UK, losing contact with the family.
But 30 years later the mother and son would be reunited when Ben sent her a letter - hoping to meet his biological mum.
Neither of them could know that their first meeting a year later would spark a disturbing affair that would tear his own family apart.
Kim says it was as if they had "known each other for years" and she began having sexual dreams about her own son.
They both agreed to meet up at a hotel and after sharing a bottle of champagne the pair had their first illicit kiss.
Before long the couple's fondness for each other developed into incestual lust and the mother and son began having sex.
I know people will say we’re disgusting... but when you’re hit by a love so consuming... you have to fight for it
Just three days after their first sexual encounter, Ben revealed the life-changing news to his wife.
She launched into a "hysterical" rant when he announced that he'd fallen in love with his biological mum and that they had had "mind-blowing" sex on several occasions.
Victoria had already been uncomfortable with Kim and Ben's 'instant bond' and Kim had become jealous of Ben's marriage.
Kim said: "[Victoria] was welcoming, yet I couldn't warm to her. I felt a growing sense of competition and when Ben touched her I felt jealous.
"I became even more aware of the fact that she thought I was spending too much time with Ben. She would constantly call him when we were together.
"Eventually, he admitted she was giving him grief about spending time with me. 'She calls you mummy girlfriend' he said."
Both Kim and Ben believe that Genetic Sexual Attraction was the reason for their bizarre feelings.
That's a term used to describe an attraction between relatives who were not raised together but met as adults.
However, the phenomenon has been described as a pseudoscience as there is very little evidence or studies that suggest people are sexually attracted to those who are genetically similar.
Ben, a computer coder, said: "When I met Kim, I couldn't think of her as my mum but instead as a sexual being.
"I had seen a therapist at an adoption support group and had learnt about the GSA phenomenon.
Kim, who worked as an interior designer, also said at the time: "This is not incest, it is GSA. We are like peas in a pod and are meant to be together.
"I know people will say we’re disgusting, that we should be able to control our feelings, but when you’re hit by a love so consuming you are willing to give up everything for it, you have to fight for it.
"It’s a once in a lifetime chance and something Ben and I are not willing to walk away from."
The couple set about starting a new life in Michigan, planning to get married and even have biological children if they could.
Inbreeding is thought to cause disabilities in children born to parents with a similar genetic makeup.
Conditions such as reduced fertility, facial asymmetry and limb malformation are all linked with inbreeding.
But the mother and son have since been forced into hiding after fearing they could face prosecution over the illegitimate affair.
Their location is currently unknown and it is unclear if the couple are still in a relationship.
The Sun revealed how a biological brother and sister fell in love after being separated as children.
They went on to have a sexual relationship and had four children, two suffering from severe disabilities.

In the United States , the legality of incest varies widely between jurisdictions regarding both the definition of the offense and penalties for its commission.

In all but two states (and the special case of Ohio, which "targets only parental figures"), [1] incest is criminalized between consenting adults. In New Jersey and Rhode Island, incest between consenting adults (16 or over for Rhode Island, 18 or over for New Jersey) is not a criminal offense, though marriage is not allowed in either state. New Jersey also increases the severity of underage sex offenses by a degree if they are also incestuous, and criminalizes incest with 16-17 year olds (the normal age of consent in New Jersey is 16). Ohio allows incest between consenting adults only when one party is not a parental figure (see table below) to the other.

As of 2010 [update] , cases of incest involving consenting adults are often not revealed to outside parties, and therefore prosecutions of these cases do not frequently occur. Cases of parent-adult child incest exposed to law enforcement are usually uncovered by another parent. [2]

The table below summarizes these laws for individual U.S. States and the District of Columbia .

Registration as a sex offender (for life until January 1, 2021; [21] at least 20 years from date of conviction [if only serving probation] or date of release as of January 1, 2021 [22] )

"a person is guilty of sexual assault in the third degree when such person engages in sexual intercourse with another person whom the actor knows to be related to him or her within any of the degrees of kindred specified in the statute that specifies which relatives are prohibited from marrying one another." [25]

Underage sexual offences are increased in severity by a degree if also incestuous.

Consensual incest between people 18 years old or more is not a criminal offense.

(1) an ancestor or descendant of the whole or half blood;
(2) a brother or sister of the whole or half blood; or
(3) an uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece by blood

2) Collateral by consanguinity up to the third degree.
including double-tie relationships as well as single ties, and
includes the relationship of parent and child by adoption or brother and sister by adoption. [60]

Consensual incest between people 16 years old or more is not a criminal offense.

without being so decreed and its nullity may be shown in any collateral proceeding, when it is between-
