The day after my birthday in June of 2015, the U.S. Supreme Court brought joy to LGBT people across the nation when it legalized same-sex marriage. I remember watching the news that day in awe — so many people came out to cheer and wave rainbow flags.
Couples were kissing and crying and racing to the courthouse to tie the knot, some after spending decades in unrecognized relationships. It was a beautiful sight.
