ADULT star Randy Spears - who quit the X-rated career for a job at a supermarket fish counter - is now a religious minister who counsels couples about the dangers of porn.
The former award-winning porn actor says he has started counseling couples and is now able to perform marriage ceremonies - as well as traveling around the country lecturing people about what he calls the "dark side of porn".
Randy, 59, told The Sun how his own career left him with drug abuse issues, sexual transmitted diseases like gonorrhea, struggles in his relationships with women - as well as difficulties in landing a regular job when he finally quit.
"I tell people about some of the negative things about porn that happened to me in my life and I share stories with them from other people I have known and how it's been detrimental to them," Randy said.
"It started when people at my church started coming to me and saying 'My marriage is over because my wife caught me watching pornography and now she wants a divorce'.
"It was one after the other and I thought because of my past maybe I could try and help people with that stuff.
"So my wife and I started taking marriage counseling classes and classes for newly engaged people.
"I also travel a lot and talk to people about the dangers of porn. When I started in the business, you had to go to a theater to see pornography, then came VHS so you could watch it in your home.
"But nowadays there are children that are accessing this stuff on their phones at nine years old - is way crazy. That's crazy for a young mind to be able to handle that.
"So I advise parents to keep an eye on what their children are viewing because there are some things out there that you can't unsee and especially for the young people it really has an effect on them...it can be dangerous, no doubt about it."
At the height of his career Randy was an in-demand porn star who starred in numerous erotic movies - even playing the part of "Captain Jim Quirk" in Sex Trek - a sex-parody of Star Trek.
Randy, who now lives in Houston, Texas, won 14 AVN awards including Best Actor, Best Group Sex Scene and Best Oral Sex Scene.
But he said the industry started to change once the internet came along - and directors competed to become more and more outrageous.
"When I started in the business, we were still shooting on film, we had good size budgets, we had professional crews, we had good scripts... we really felt like we were making erotic art," Randy said.
"Then it really started to change dramatically when the internet came, because now anybody with a little bitty camera in their hand and a couple of lights can make an adult movie.
"And I started to notice the stories started to go away, the budget started to come down. It was almost like new director was trying to out-gross the next person.
"It was like, 'I'll shoot the most outrageous thing, let's bring in little midget people and giant circus women or have 19 men and one little school girl'.
"I really started to get a bad taste in my mouth for the business."
Eventually he became "burnt out" by the industry and left a shoot in tears, asking God to change his life.
"There was always a lot of drugs in the business," he admitted.
"We partied because we wanted to have fun and because we wanted to escape the crazy life we were living.
"And sometimes that will bite you, it did me, I did a lot of cocaine, spent a lot of money and I found myself wanting to escape.
"I used to take little breaks and just go fishing and do nothing and campaign and no phones, no TVs and use me to clean my brain out
"There were definitely some negative things that came with my success, I caught chlamydia, I caught gonorrhea. Thank God that stuff was treatable. I knew many people who got AIDS and died."
The final straw came about eight years ago - when he decided enough was enough on the set of a porn movie.
"I remember distinctly - I was really having a tough time on that last movie set," he said.
"The director just wanted outrageous, dirty sex and he was mistreating the girls and I was just so turned off by it.
"I was so burnt out and I was really fearful to leave. I had done it so long and I didn't know any other way to make real money, but I got done with my scene and I just struggled through it.
"I got in my car and I drove about two blocks and I pulled over, put it in park, and I started to weep. I felt sorry for myself and I was frightened and I just prayed right there in my car. I said, 'God, please get me out of this, change my life'.
Randy quit the industry that day and moved to Phoenix, Arizona to take care of his brother who had just had back surgery.
After a year he decided to move to Texas to be closer to his two children - but says it was a huge struggle to get a job.
Eventually he found a job working at the fish counter of his local supermarket.
He still works for the company - but is now in a management position as well as being a qualified minister and working to counsel couples at his church Northside Christian in Spring, Texas.
"I got a lot of rejection because of my fame," he said.
"That was really depressing. Very, very difficult.
"I ended up at my local grocery store and I ended up going over to the seafood counter and I said, Hey, are you guys hiring?
"At that point I was ready to take any job. And they said, yeah, we are actually.
"So I went through the process, went through the interview process and they hired me.
"It was a real wake up call going from a movie star and somebody who people who wait 45 minutes for my autograph to wearing a hair net selling fish.
"But at the same time I was proud and I was grateful and I was happy."
As well as working in the supermarket he also travels to schools and churches across America to talk about about porn.
He and his wife also counsel couples - and he is qualified to perform marriage ceremonies - with his first planned for this summer.
"I speak at colleges and churches across the country about the dangers of pornography and you know.
"Me wife and I also do marriage counseling - I haven't married anyone yet because we have a few couples that are going various marriage classes with the church and they have set their dates and stuff. So we're looking forward to it.
