A Rak'ah ( Arabic : ركعة rakʿah , pronounced [ˈrakʕah] ; plural: ركعات rakaʿāt ) is a single iteration of prescribed movements and supplications performed by Muslims as part of the prescribed obligatory prayer known as salah . [1] Each of the five daily prayers observed by Muslims consist of a number of raka'at. [1]

After washing for prayer by performing the ritual ablution , a believer must renew their innermost intention , thus purifying their prayer for the sake of Allah . An intention Niyyah is not to be said verbally but rather it is made in the heart; but can also be said verbally alongside the intention in the heart. Example: you intended in your heart to pray 4 Units (Rakahs) for you start your prayer. [1]

The raka'ah begins when the worshipper initiates the salah with the words "Allah is The Greatest",(Allah-hu-Akbar) this is known in Arabic as the Takbir ( lit. 'the glorification of God'). [1] Takbir must be said at the start of the Salah or the prayer is invalidated. [1] The individual will observe the standing position while reciting the "Dua al istiftah" followed by the opening chapter of the Qur'an ( Al-Fatiha ) (Note: reciting the Al-Fatiha is a pillar of prayer. [1] If one forgets to say the Al-Fatiha or makes a major mistake in its Tajweed , then they must redo the prayer from the start) followed by a personal selection of chosen verses or chapters which the worshipper is free to choose to recite for themselves. [ citation needed ]

The second part of the raka'ah involves the worshipper making another Takbir then bowing to a 90 degree angle, placing their hands on their knees with their feet kept shoulder-width apart, eyes are meant to be focused in between you feet or around the area and bowing in humble submission as if awaiting God's command. During this position the words, "Glory be to Allah the most magnificent" are uttered silently as a form of ritual praise. [1]

The third movement of the raka'ah is to return from bowing to the standing position before, with the praise of Allah on your tongue, descending into full prostration on the ground. [1]

In prostration, the worshipper's forehead and nose is flatly placed on the floor with the palm of their hands placed shoulder-width apart to the right and left of their ears. While going in the "sujood" or the prostration position, one must remember that first, the knees should touch the ground, then his hands, then his nose and at last his forehead. The worshipper's elbows, forearms and chest are then raised off the floor. [1]

During this position the words, "Glory be to Allah the Almighty" are repeated with contemplation as a form of ritual praise. The Islamic prophet Muhammad taught his disciples that "the closest a subject gets to their God is when in prostration". [1]

The fourth movement is for the worshipper to return from prostration into a sitting position with their legs folded flatly under their body. While getting up from the prostration, one must follow the order opposite to the order followed while going into the prostration i.e. he should first raise his forehead, then his nose, then his hands and at last his knees. In this position they would invoke Allah for forgiveness of your sins and the sins of their parents and the wider believers before descending into a second prostration. [1]

This concludes one unit of prayer known in Arabic as a raka'ah and would be followed by either standing up for a second raka'ah if the prayer requires it or by proceeding to end the salah with taslim . [1]

Although not part of a single raka'ah, the conclusion of the salah takes place in the sitting position, the worshipper turns their head to the right saying, "Peace be unto you, and Allah's mercy and blessing" before subsequently turning the head to the left and repeating the salutation. This action helps to reminds Muslims of the presence of the recording angels on their right and left who record their deeds. [2] [1]

Islamic daily prayers are performed in the following numbers of Rak'at :

Regarding Jumu'ah (Friday) Prayer. [a] obligatory only upon healthy men, optional for the women and they can choose to pray Zuhr at home instead. It consists of 2 Rakat after the Arabic Khutbah and followed by 4 or 2 Rakat Sunnah(Muakkadah) [b] after the 2 Fard Rakat. So it's either 2 Rakat or four Rakat. [ citation needed ]
There are two Eid prayers in a year, Eid-ul-fitr and Eid-ul-adha.

Namaz is a kind of worship that Muslims offer to make Allah happy. It is also known as Salat or Salah. Offering Salah means communicating with Allah. Moreover, it protects the person from doing sins or bad deeds. Our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) mentioned in a hadith that “Salat is the key to heaven”.
Allah has gifted Muslims five times prayers in a day. Muslims should offer their prayers regularly and connect themselves with Allah and protect themselves from shaitan’s misguidance. Every Muslim must perform prayers five times a day, or else they will be punished on the day of judgment.
In every Salat there are series of the movement named Rakat. Rakats are performed in every Salat, either in a mosque or at home. In this article, we have covered all useful information about Namaz Rakats. So without any further ado, let’s move forward.
This salat’s timings start from dawn to just before sunrise. It is a four Rakat prayer, two Rakat each.
First two Rakats are performed as Sunnat Mokadda.
The remaining two Rakats are performed as Fard.
However, it isn’t easy to wake up so early in the morning, but if you woke up just for the sake of worshipping Allah, it will make your day energetic and will lighten up your day. There is a hadith in Muslim Bukhari which says;
“Whoever offers the Fajr prayer, Allah will protect him throughout the day.”
So make sure you offer your Fajr prayer regularly as it will save you from hell. Also, Allah blesses them throughout the day and protects them from incidents. Therefore, it is necessary to offer Fajr prayer and never skip it in any cause. Moreover, it is said that offering Fajr Salat increases Rizq.
This salat’s timings start from the afternoon when the sun has passed the median point in the sky. It is a twelve Rakats prayer, 2 four Rakats, and 1 two Rakats.
This Salat consists of 12 Rakats Namaz. Other nawafils can also be offered after Namaz. If we talk about the importance of this Namaz, it is highlighted in a hadith that;
“During the Zuhar Salat’s time, the gates of heaven get opened.”
So it’s necessary to offer Zuhar’s prayer and to do good deeds during this time. Allah Almighty shower his blessings on those people who performed this Salat till Asar’s prayer. Moreover, whoever performed Zuhar’s Slat on its time and regularly he/she will be protected from the fire of hell on the day of judgment. There is no reward for such people who skip any of the prayers.
This salat’s timings start halfway between noon and sunset. It is an eight Rakats prayer.
After Zuhar’s Salat, the Asar’s prayer takes place, and it starts in the afternoon. This prayer consists of eight Rakats, four Rakat Sunnat, which is non-Mokadda, and four Rakat fard. Non-Mokadda Rakats means there is no sin if you don’t offer them but praying them is rewardful. In a hadith, it is mentioned that;
“Whoever offers Fajr and Asar prayer will enter Jannah.”
This Salat opens the doors of heaven for those who perform it and protects him from hell. Many hadiths have mentioned that this Salat takes place a very important role in the success of Muslims. The Asar prayer gives you and your family a healthy life and success in this life and hereafter. Also, offering Asar prayer regularly increases your wealth and Rizq.
This salat’s timings start just after sunset. It is a seven Rakats prayer.
The Maghrib Namaz’s time immediately starts after sunset, but it has to be offered before getting dark outside. It is a seven Rakats Salat. Maghrib prayer has been given very importance in hadiths and Quran. There’s a hadith is Sahi Bukhari which says;
“He who missed Maghrib prayer will be punished in this world and hereafter.”
Maghrib Namaz is very important as Allah offers his countless blessing to those who offer this Salat and take away all the blessing from those who skip it. Not only this, the person who does not offer Maghrib prayer won’t be forgiven in this world and hereafter even not at the time of his death. Furthermore, his duas will not be accepted.
This salat’s timings start when it is dark outside till Fajr prayer. It is a seventeen Rakats prayer.
Isha’s prayer is the last prayer of the day. The time of this prayer starts when shy gets dark after the Maghrib prayer till Fajr. This Salat consists of seventeen Rakats. One who offers this prayer will be kept in blessings till morning, and Allah will set angles to protect the person till Fajr Namaz. Also, as this prayer is performed before sleeping, so it will make your night peaceful; therefore, it’s necessary to offer your Salat before sleep.
Mentioned above are the five obligatory prayers that Muslims, in any case, should perform.
However, there are other prayers as well that Muslims offer with compulsory prayers. Those prayers are as follows.
This prayer is offered at midnight. It is not a compulsory prayer, and it consists of twelve Rakats nawafil.
This prayer is performed in the holy month of Ramadan. It consists of twenty Rakats of Sunnat Tarawih.
