I just started fixing this game into a playbable state thanks to some excellent guides. They are really helpfull, but I need to know what difference is between manupulating the default.cfg or creating a rageconfig.cfg to load specific commandlines? Is it 32bit (default.cfg) / 64 bit (rageconfig.cfg)? And what version is recommended? My experiences with the 64bit version thus far are not very good!

Can't really understand what you mean but about the configs: default.cfg is the game core default config file. For example; keybinds like WASD, M1, M2, etc for certain game mechanics and multiplayer or singleplayer. .cfg still uses the default.cfg file, but you have some of your own commands you can use like changing the graphics and stuff. I prefer using the regular 'Play RAGE' button. Which I believe is the 32-bit version.

There is no manipulation. Just create a totally new file called rageconfig.cfg. That file you make, and have options of what kind of stuff to put there. Both 32 and 64 use the same config files. But this game is old so generally runs better in 32 from what most people say. Most guides are pretty clear about making a NEW file. Not manipulating ones that are already there. Just leave them alone unless you wish to alter controller or mouse/keyboard settings, which IMO are just fine.

rageconfig.exe is created when u first launch the 64-bit exe, it has separated file yes. btw 32-bit has better performance and more stable the multiplyer config file is under "mp" folder

“In other words WITH tweaks the game can be very good on PC.” : O HOLY BATMAN! I just found my sweet spot! The game looks beautiful and runs silky smooth! How the ##### can a games-company shoot itself in the foot this way??? There is just no comparing the tweaked version and the vanilla game, with the latter being absolutely unplayable. Don’t they want people to play their game??? Thanks for explaining all. And I’ll stay well away from the 64bit version! (Also PC Wiki writes “Achievements are disabled in the 64-bit version”!) Regarding my question; “default.cfg" or "rageconfig.cfg”? Both methods work, but creating a rageconfig.cfg (and putting that into my “program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RAGE\base” folder) is definitely more elegant. B.t.w. I also made a copy of my rageconfig.cfg and put that into my “program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RAGE\mp\base” folder). Now I can solo (private match) the co-op content with the same settings. Very fun and a real challenge ; ) ty Might I just add one more thing; there is actually a third option for entering your commands: The id5Tweaker.ini file : ) (Id Software should cont(r)act that guy!)
