This guide will provide details and requirements to conduct a smooth and safe swim for RSS Kallang.

SESSION TIMELINE

These are the breakdown of events:

  • Total duration of swim: 90 min
  • Mustering: 5 min before session time
  • Conducting & Safety briefs & Warm-Up: 20 mins
  • Swim: 1 hr
  • Cool-Down: 10 mins

SWIM EXECUTION

Instructions for Conducting Party

Conducting shall:

1. Be on station 15 mins before session time to ensure safety checklist is checked correct and ready for the session.

2. Ensure participants report strength 5 mins prior to session time.

3. Ensure that declaration of completion of PAR-Q is reported by either unit representative or individual participants.

4. Conduct conducting brief and safety brief.

5. Ensure participants provide their own representative to conduct warm-ups pre-swim and cool-downs post-swim according to SAF Standard Warm-Up/Cool-Down procedure.

6. A section of a pool consists of 2 lanes with a maximum capacity of 40 pax (each lane 20 pax). Conducting shall assign units to their section and split the participants evenly on both sides of each section at different lanes (i.e. 20 pax form up on Lane 1 on the left side of the section and 20 pax form up on Lane 2 on the right side of the section).

7. Ensure that the participants will be swimming in a counterclockwise direction when forming them up at their respective sections

8. Ensure participants form up orderly at both ends of a section and wait for the signal to commence.

9. Report to the organizing committee in the reporting chat in the b/m format:

Part A: During commencement of swim

1. Date: 5 Oct

2. Session: 1

3. Conducting: ME4 xxx

4. Safety: ME2 YYY

5. Total swimmers: 66

6. Safety checklist checked correct

7. All PAR-Q completed

Part B: Completion of swim

1. Session 1 completed

2. Cool down completed

3. All feeling well

4. Nothing significant to report


Medical Plan

10. In the event of an emergency in the pool, the lifeguard will attend to the injured personnel while awaiting the arrival of the On-Scene medics to transport the casualty to the ambulance, if deemed necessary, the injured personnel will be transported to the nearest hospital. All swimming activities will cease until SAFRA POC has given the go-ahead to continue

No-Go Criteria

11. SAFRA will not continue with the activity under the following conditions:

  • CAT 1 lightning risk
  • 24-Hour PSI >100

Inclement Weather

12. Each session is given 1 hour of swimming time. In an event of foul weather, the session will be canceled if the participants do not have a minimum swim time of 30 mins.

The unit representative is to coordinate with the formation coordinator for a subsequent make-up session.
