INTRODUCTION OF ROUND THE CLOCK

Round the Clock is a very simple roll and move dice game for children. It is similar to Martinetti, but it limits players to a single roll per turn and the use of two dice. This is a great game to help young children with identifying the hours on a clock. It also puts them into a position to vocalize the time format. For example, when landing on the 1, that player could say, “I am on 1 o’clock.”

To play the game, you will need two 6 sided dice and a quick sketch of a clock. Players should all roll to see who gets to go first. The player with the highest roll goes first.

All players begin the game on the 12.

THE PLAY

During each turn, players are trying to roll the number needed to move one hour ahead on the clock. If a player does not roll the number they need, their turn is immediately over, and play passes to the next player. If a player rolls the number they need, they move one hour ahead, and play passes to the next player. Players only get one roll per turn. keonhacai

For example, player 1 begins the game at 12 o’clock. In order to move forward, they need to roll a 1. One their next turn, they will need to move an hour ahead to 2 o’clock. On that turn, they either need to roll a 1-1 (which equals 2), or they need to roll one of the dice as a 2.

As players progress around the clock, they will either need to roll the exact number needed on one of the dice or roll a combination that equals the needed number. For example, if a player is trying to move to the 6 o’clock position, they can roll a 1-5, 2-4, 3-3, or a 6 on one of the dice.

Each player may use a token to mark which hour they are on. If tokens are not available, simply mark the hour with the player’s initials, a special symbol, or with different colored pens.

Play like this continues until one of the players returns to the 12 o’clock position.

WINNING

The first player to move around the clock and return to the 12 o’clock position wins the game.
