A ring road (also known as circular road, beltline, beltway, circumferential (high)way, loop or orbital) is a road or a series of connected roads encircling a town, city or country. The most common purpose of a ring road is to assist in reducing traffic volumes in the urban centre, such as by offering an alternate route around the city for drivers who do not need to stop in the city core. Ring roads can also serve to connect suburbs to each other, allowing efficient travel between them.

Cairo Road is the main thoroughfare of Lusaka, Zambia and the principal business, retail and service centre of the city. It is a section of the T2 road and was so named because it is a link in Cecil Rhodes' then dream of a Cape to Cairo Road through British colonies in Africa. Cairo Road is 1.8 km long, running north–south between the Great East Road junction (also known as the "Kabwe Roundabout") and the Independence Avenue junction (also known as the "Kafue Roundabout"), and is a wide dual carriageway with an avenue of trees down the centre. It runs parallel to the main railway line which is one block to the east. As the main north–south road it became very congested. This has been partially alleviated by the expansion of Lumumba Road to the west as a by-pass, taking much through traffic. All Heavy Goods vehicles are required to use Lumumba Road (not allowed on Cairo Road) when travelling from the southern side of the CBD to the northern side of the CBD and vice versa. Despite this, Cairo Road frequently becomes very congested, as does much of Lusaka. This is primarily due to the lack of any major ring roads and the growth of Lusaka's population. In 2020, a new road was opened, named the Lusaka West Ring Road, in order for traffic that doesn't intend on stopping in Lusaka to bypass the city centre to the west. So, with the opening of the new road, any vehicles that have no business in Lusaka and are travelling from the south (Kafue) to the north (Chibombo) (and vice versa) on the T2 road can avoid both Cairo Road and Lumumba Road.

Old Cairo (Arabic: مصر القديمة, romanized: Miṣr al-Qadīma, Egyptian pronunciation: Maṣr El-ʾAdīma) is a historic area in Cairo, Egypt, which includes the site of a Roman-era fortress, the Christian settlement of Coptic Cairo, and the Muslim-era settlement of Fustat that pre-dates the founding of Cairo proper in 969 AD. It is part of what is referred to as Historic Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Miṣr al-Qadīma is also a modern administrative district in the Southern Area of Cairo, encompassing the area from the Cairo Aqueduct to the north, to the Ring Road in the south, and from the Khalifa cemetery to the east, to the Nile Corniche in the west, as well as Roda Island, or Manial al-Roda. It had 250,313 residents according to the 2017 census.

The Cairo Ring Road is a 100km long ring road that encircles most of the contiguous metropolitan area of the cities of Cairo, Giza and Shubra Al-Kheima, in the Greater Cairo region in Egypt. Construction began in the late 1980s. It was originally planned to surround the Greater Cairo region from three of its four sides, but part of the road remains unbuilt because the original route took it very near the Giza pyramids, an area which has been on the UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1979. It had two purposes: stopping the urbanization of arable lands, and reducing Cairo's traffic. In the early 2000s, planning for a regional ring road commenced, enclosing the larger metropolitan area including El Shorouk, New Cairo and Helwan in the Cairo Governorate, Obour in the Qalyubiyya Governorate and 6th of October in the Giza Governorate, which was completed in 2018.

Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, also known as the Cairo–Alexandria Freeway and the Cairo–Alexandria Highway, is the main highway that connects Cairo to Alexandria, the two largest cities in Egypt. It is 220 km long. It begins at Giza, at the northwest corner of Cairo's regional ring road, and ends in Alexandria (Kilo 21).

The Cairo Bus Rapid Transit (Arabic: الاتوبيس الترددي السريع BRT), or Cairo BRT, is a mass transit project implemented in Greater Cairo, Egypt by the Ministry of Transport as a modern alternative to traditional microbus services and will complement the proposed fifth line of the Cairo Metro. The system operates along the Cairo Ring Road and is designed to integrate with other public transportation networks, including metro lines, trains, and superjet buses. The project is structured in three phases and includes 48 stations distributed along the ring road, with an estimated total cost of approximately EGP 9.5 billion. Access to bus stations located above the ring road is facilitated through pedestrian tunnels or escalators. Car parks are provided beneath the stations. Once fully operational, the fleet of electric buses will run on fixed schedules and be equipped with passenger-friendly amenities, including air conditioning, on-board Wi-Fi, and real-time trip information displays. Microbuses will be prohibited on the Cairo Ring Road, with dedicated BRT lanes reserved exclusively for the new buses, except in emergency cases, when access will be permitted for ambulances and fire services. The system is designed to operate 100 electric buses with connections to service stops below the ring road. Operations are scheduled 24 hours a day in three shifts. Stations are equipped with electronic displays to provide real-time bus arrival and departure information, with buses expected at intervals of approximately 10 minutes. The fare system includes both fixed and flexible ticket options, with the latter linked to the number of stations traveled, calculated based on distance.
