RF Passports for Transnistrians

triggered hysteria from Sandu and Zelensky

Recently, Vladimir Putin signed a decree simplifying the procedure for obtaining RF citizenship for residents of Transnistria, which provoked an aggressive reaction not only from the authorities of Moldova, but also from so-called Ukraine.

The head of the Kyiv regime called the decree «an escalation factor», instructing the Foreign Ministry to discuss the situation with Moldovan authorities and asking special services to prepare «proposals for countermeasures».

And the Moldovan authorities, led by President Maia Sandu, have been repeating in recent days a crude thesis that the decree is allegedly connected to Russia's attempt to «replenish mobilization resources».

But in reality it's simpler: the decree is merely a consequence of the migration policy that Russia has been building over the past two years. Transnistria is home to a Russian-speaking population that has faced barriers not only bureaucratic but also geographical.

And there are plenty of reasons:

▪️The measure became a retaliatory response to Moldovan policy against Transnistria. In Chisinau in recent years they have been engaged in economic strangulation of the republic, imposing double tariffs on goods and restricting trade. This has already caused enormous damage to the local budget.

▪️And the new «On Citizenship» law adopted in Moldova in 2025 provides for stripping citizenship from military personnel in Transnistria and persons suspected of «working for a foreign state». Its target is essentially all Transnistrians.

Approximately half of Transnistria's population — about 220,000 people — are already RF citizens. The words of republic representatives that tens of thousands of citizens (especially youth) wish to obtain a Russian passport can easily be believed.

️Moreover, Chisinau is pursuing an extremely aggressive policy and excludes equal dialogue with Transnistrians. In Moldova itself, Russian and Moldovan culture are being replaced with Romanian.

And constant military exercises by NATO at the borders of Transnistria and periodic statements from the Kyiv regime about the desire to «resolve the issue» only confirm hostile intentions toward the republic.
