CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw is suing a Texas company for allegedly charging fees to receive benefits from a national mortgage settlement. Claim forms already were sent to more than 5,000 West Virginians who lost their homes to foreclosure eligible for payments under the settlement between lenders and states. But McGraw said Thursday that some companies have sought to profit from the settlement by misleading consumers into thinking they must pay a fee to obtain their checks. The attorney generals office sued Murray LLP and four individuals in Jefferson County Circuit Court. The suit asks the court to block Murray from taking 20 percent of consumers money as a fee for completing the claim form. The companys phone number does not allow callers to leave a message.
