Klubi Futbollistik Trepça, commonly known as KF Trepça, is a professional football club based in the southern part of Mitrovica, Kosovo. The club currently plays in the First Football League of Kosovo in Group A. KF Trepça was founded in 1932. During the Yugoslav era it was the first football club from SAP Kosovo to gain promotion to the First Federal League, Yugoslavia's top football division, in 1977–78, after winning the Second Federal League title in 1976–77. Trepça was one of only two clubs from Kosovo, along with KF Prishtina, who competed in the Yugoslav top level. Trepça also hold the distinction as the only Kosovar club which reached the Yugoslav national cup final, in their first top-level season, losing the 1978 Marshal Tito Cup final to Croatian side Rijeka.

The 1977–78 Yugoslav Cup was the 30th season of the top football knockout competition in SFR Yugoslavia, the Yugoslav Cup (Serbo-Croatian: Kup Jugoslavije), also known as the "Marshal Tito Cup" (Kup Maršala Tita), since its establishment in 1946. It was won by Rijeka, for whom it was their first major silverware in history. This season marked the end of the domination of Hajduk Split in this competition, as their run of five consecutive cup wins came to an end when they were knocked out by eventual winners Rijeka in the semi-final. The other finalists from the previous season, Dinamo Zagreb, also exited in the semi-final following their defeat to minnows Trepča. Along with Trepča and Rijeka, surprise of the tournament were also Borac Čačak, who were the last team from outside top level in the tournament when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals.
