A buddy of mine has both the Quicksilver One and Venture One from CapitalOne (long story). Due to not wanting to potentially mess up his credit history and score, he refuses to close either account, so he wants to figure out how to make the most of the situation.
We noticed that the Quicksilver One gets 1.5 points per dollar where as the Venture One gets 1.25 miles per dollar, and thus figured it best to use the Quicksilver One for his every day purchases due to the higher rewards per dollar. He only travels for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so he plans on transferring the Quicksilver rewards to his Venture One account and convert the points to miles to supplement part of his travel expenses, and of course using the Venture One card for the remainder of his travel expenses (rental, flights, etc).
Is this plan sound or would you advise another option? His credit score isn't in the Venture X range, so upgrading to it is not an option here and again, aside from a couple rentals throughout the year, he only hops on flights twice per year and rarely stays in a hotel.
You might have the rewards mixed up. Venture One 1.25 miles/$1 while Quicksilver One is 1.5 cents/dollar
Does he plan to upgrade to venture x eventually or get/use another travel card. I’ve heard C1 can be annoying with multiple card changes/upgrades. If he wants it, I’d hold off now then upgrade to the X. If he doesn’t want the X, I’d product change the ventureone to savor one
The Quicksilver One is 1.5% cashback with an annual fee of $39. The VentureOne is 1.25 points per dollar. I don't know where you are seeing 2 points for the QS1 and 1.5 points for the VentureOne.
C1 will let you transfer cash back to travel points. At least they do on the standard Venture/Savior. Should prob use the cash back mainly and then transfer to points if he wants to use the travel portal
