Doctor Sam Beckett led a group of top scientists into the desert to research his theory that a man could time travel within his own lifetime. Unfortunately, in order to save his funding, he was forced to enter the accelerator prematurely and vanished. He then found himself in someone else's body with partial amnesia. His only contact from home is Al, a holographic image only he can see and hear. Setting right things which once went wrong, Sam leaps from life to life, hoping each time that this is the final leap home.
Although the project isn't ready yet, Sam hops into the Accelerator and leaps. As Tom Stratton, an Air Force test pilot, Sam finds his memory Swiss cheesed, with only enough left to know that he is not where or when he belongs. Al explains that the project has gone "a little ca-ca" and that the only way Sam can leap out is by flying the X-2 to Mach 3. Instead, Sam leaps after saving Tom's life, wife and child, only to find that rather than leaping home, he's leapt into Tim Fox, a minor league baseball player in Texas, at the end of the 1968 season, where he must make the winning play in order to leap.
A lot of better writers had such a science fiction scenario in mind long before this show about a man&#39;s spirit (or soul, or whatever you want to call it) being inserted into a past person&#39;s body in order to alter future events.<br/><br/>It&#39;s too bad that producers and publishers are deathly afraid of inspiration, talent, and creativity, because they simply have their hacks rewrite good scripts (which they reject from the original writers) into scripts with no life, no inspiration, no depth, nothing.<br/><br/>That is apparently what happened here. This show should have been much better. First of all, it was heavily inundated with neo-Nazi ideology, meaning any woman with dark hair would probably be exterminated in favor of a blonde woman being saved. Needless to say, this was loved by the female audience, but seen as depressing by males.<br/><br/>There is also the poorly explained bad science. The writers seemed to be on hallucinogenic drugs, because there was absolutely no format for the scenario. It was all just magic, and that would be okay if it was supposed to be magical and supernatural, but the writers made a huge mistake in trying to say it was scientific.<br/><br/>This is about as bad as it gets. Again, the woman will love it, but the man will hate it.
Sure, it&#39;s basically sci-fi, but it comes down to be mostly a drama. With Sam leaping from life to life we get to see a great variation of styles and adventures and most episodes were simply cool.<br/><br/>Some rare episodes were focusing on the sci-fi angle and there was nothing bad with that. From leaping into Dr.Ruth (really!) to a chimp, we got lots of good memories from that series. Too bad the ending was so weird and depressing.

&quot;Mirror Image&quot; (the series finale) was originally intended to be a season cliffhanger into the sixth season, but the show was cancelled due to low ratings in the end of the fifth season. The producers then decided to reshoot some scenes and make this episode the series finale. The result was rendering the episode a bit lacking, and leaving many questions unanswered. The ending was left open to allow for the possibility of a TV-movie, or even a theatrical film at some point. Neither ever came to pass. a5c7b9f00b
