I am so grateful to be included in this wonderful campaign. Thank you Lawrence 💛. When I saw it was about honouring both the beauty and strength of women I was hooked! This is something I am really passionate about. Breaking down the stigma and misconceptions of what it means to be a strong, empowered woman. What it means to honour the blood and tears of our sisters who rose before us and pathed the way through the women's rights movement. Who wore the badge of feminist with pride.
We now find ourselves in a time when feminism is a dirty word, when it conjures up thoughts of women who go around breaking the balls of men with their hairy armpits and masculine ways. This is a deliberate falsification of reality. It is my dream for women to stand in solidarity with one another, in every corner of the globe, to keep striving for equity and respect in every facet of life. Both at home and in the corporate and political arenas. But to be able to do so without giving up our most beautiful quality which is our femininity as that is where our greatest strengths are found.
The image of a witch on a broomstick first appeared in the 15th century. Two women in illustrations of the 1451 edition of French poet Martin Le Franc’s Le Champion des Dames, are flying, one on a stick, the other on a broom.
Dylan Thuras at Atlas Obscura wrote that the “broom was a symbol of female domesticity, yet the broom was also phallic, so riding on one was a symbol of female sexuality, thus femininity and domesticity gone wild.” The two women in Le Champion des Dames are ordinary, so their corruption cannot be visually perceived. And pagan rituals before the 15th century had involved phallic forms, so the shape of the broomstick between a woman’s legs had both a sexual and spiritually deviant meaning to the Church.
The vulgar belief, and the witches confess, that on certain days or nights they anoint a staff and ride on it to the appointed place or anoint themselves under the arms and in other hairy places.
Since many witch “confessions” were got under torture, and the Catholic Church and others could be wildly reactionary to any deviance, all of this is hearsay. But the image of the witch on the broomstick combined anxieties about women’s sexuality, and religious freedom into one enduring myth.

Me, I don't give a damn. I get my ups & downs in other ways - like spending 3 hours hoping & praying a Hairy (dragonfly of course!) would land just once for a photo opportunity. And I wasn't the only one!

This is Crystal. Her mom is not part of the listserve but sent me this photo because I've been posting other plus-size women on winter vacations.
Crystal is on her 'honeymoon'--alone. Her fiance broke off the wedding weeks before the ceremony was to happen because, among other reasons, he got tired of his friends kidding him about "marrying the fat girl." Though broken hearted, she went on the trip they planned anyway.

Oh, how I love poppies and of course I love light so what better way to start the day than to play with both. I've never grown poppies before but expect to see more this summer as they grow and change. I love bouquets of cut flowers but prefer not to spend money on them, they are such an indulgence that just doesn't last long enough for me to justify the cost. Growing my own will give me all that I need to satisfy the desire to have flowers around. Have a lovely day and if you got nothing from this post let it be a public service announcement and warning about light. The sun at the right angle will highlight all of those hairs so be aware of that when photographing people, not all women appreciate having their beards shown off.

I remember the first time I came across the website 'Kijiji', I thought there was nothing so interesting as scrolling endlessly to see what people were buying or selling. I think in other parts of the country Craig's List is the big buy and sell website, but where I am, Kijiji is the main one, or at least the one I look at often. There used to be anything and everything available on it, from heavy equipment to women's worn panties. Yes, back in the beginning a person could buy and sell 'personal' items, but that part of Kijiji was deleted quite awhile ago. Now, it's the run-of-the-mill goods and services available, but oh what a treasure trove it is! Unless you're looking for worn undies, then you're out of luck!! I peruse the pets section frequently and the livestock section, always keeping an eye out for any poor bedraggled animal that needs a home. I found my little dog on Kijiji, when I was actually looking for a dog for a friend. She wanted a big hairy dog for the acreage, so I was looking for her when I came across a poodle/bichon cross that beckoned me. She did find a dog on Kijiji, and Sadie has proven to be a wonderful companion for her. Not long after that, she was looking for a truck, so being the good friend that I am, I looked on Kijiji for her in my spare time, and what do ya know.......I happened across a blue truck that looked remarkably like a truck I bought new back in the 90's! I had always regretted selling that truck, and there it was in front of me for sale, and at a pretty good price. I ended up getting that truck, and it was the one I had owned previously, it had the same little dent where I had bumped a parking meter. I had sold it during a particularly bad time in my life, and it seemed that all of that bad stuff that happened to me after it went, kind of got erased from my life. Weird, I know! Anyway, my friend did find a truck, on Kijiji too. I told her, she has to quit looking for things to buy, because it's getting to where I can't afford to be buying for myself, everything that she's in the market for!

around a year ago I locked myself in a studio for three hours and received six different unknown people separately to photograph them naked. The only thing I said in the ad was that I was only interested in people with insecurities. All who wrote were women, except for this guy. He asked if I wanted to see pictures of himself before but I didn't. I open the door. He is shy and nervous. Smiling the whole time, like letting me know he is okay. He goes to the background and starts talking about the mental list of things he dislikes about himself, pointing at them while he takes his clothes off. Very slow and very calm. No filter. No sadness or frustration either, just sharing himself. He is beautiful and this intimacy so new to me. I feel completely guilty enjoying the moment so much, but. Curiosity wins so I keep asking, he keeps telling me. At some point, I comment on how great his body hair looks in the camera. It is very true. He explains he used to be hairier but cancer left his body like this in his early twenties. He excuses himself, worried that it might make me feel uncomfortable. I remember him he is naked in front of me sharing every part of himself, so it is fair I get a bit of uncomfortableness too. He laughs and I try to think what I would like to hear if I would have cancer now. But I haven't, so I just ask how he felt. He keeps telling me about it, very grateful for not being sick anymore. I feel so proud of him. And too many other things, and we've shared only 25 minutes together. I ask him why he wanted to come to the session and he says he just had to, because we really need to see a different kind of bodies more often, and that was bigger than the shyness and the fear.
I've been all this months trapped in many different conflicts with this project. It is very delicate when you're working with the intimacy of others and you're not sure about the impact it will have. But I remembered this conversation with him and felt it was stupid not to do it.
