This hotel was a good central location in town, and was extremely cheap! But... it had more con's than pro's! The strip club, "Splash" is right down the road, and all of the local strippers would bring their customer's back to this hotel (hourly), servicing all of the "older" fishermen! The hour or two that I would attempt to sleep at night, was impossible due to all of the noise from... well, you can use your imagination. And, every night at 11:00pm, the hotel would close down the swimming pool for their nightly chlorine dump! They would literally dump a 5 gallon bucket of pure chlorine powder into the swimming pool! It's no wonder the cocroaches were dropping like flies every time they'd take a dive into the pool! (But, I guess the hotel would have to "sanitize," considering all of the Prostitution taking place!!) So, be sure not to swim in the pool! The staff was friendly, but that's their job. No hospitality is offered, this is NOT a 5 star hotel! I would only recomend this hotel to "older" men who are solely in Cabo to fish and seek prostitution! I would NOT recommend this hotel to families or to young single women... The front of the hotel is gated for a reason! More
We found Hotel Mar de Cortez on Trip Advisor and booked it based on the good reviews. Friendly, helpful staff, great location, basic and very clean rooms--an incredible value. We'll definitely be staying here the next time we come back to Cabo.
I got home last night from one week at Mar de Cortez in downtown Cabo on Lazaro Cardenas and LOVED the place. I was in a Terrace room ($67.50usd/night all taxes in) which was clean, bright, very roomy (has AC but no fan, phone, or TV). The staff is friendly and welcoming. The pool is large with plenty of loungers and surrounded by tropical plantings. Also two small rooftop sundecks. Free wifi and many people used their laptops sitting at the table and chairs outside each room. They offer beach/pool towels you check out at the front desk. And have safety deposit boxes available downstairs. No charge for either (just don't lose the towel or the key). There are huge blue jugs of purified water setting out in common areas with a pitcher in your room to fill from them. Spencer's for breakfast and the pool bar for happy hour (2x1 from Noon to 5pm) were both great. I did not make use of these extras but there is a parking lot on premises, you can rent a small refrigerator, bellmen help move luggage, and there is daily laundry service available. I would return again in a heart-beat! sincerely, suze
it is one of the friendliest places i have stayed. staff are unbelievably friendly and nothing is an effort to do to help you.when people come back for 10 to 20 yrs in a row that says something. rooms basic but how much time are you in it. i will be going back and passing the name any chance i get.
I am going to stay at the Mar de Cortez again for the third time in Cabo when I go fishing this November 2009. It is clean, very affordable, and has a big freezer to store my fish I catch. I:ll admit it doesn't have a tv or telephone, but who needs them. The front desk people and other employees are polite and courteous to my needs. It has a fine dining and bar facility on the premises. The outdoor front entrance almost surprises you because you really don't know it is a hotel until you enter the front lobby. Love the place!!!! Roy and Elizabeth
After the glowing reviews I read here I really expected this place to be better. The pictures you see of the courtyard and pool area are all accurate, it's nicely landscaped and pleasant. The rooms, however, are nothing special, in fact any bargain hotel I've ever been in beats this place handily. It's not dirty necessarily, but it's all dingy, like the cleaning staff is just not all that into it, so for example the corners of the rooms are darker than the rest. There is no TV, that's fine. There's no clock or radio either. In fact there isn't even a phone. The only piece of electrical equipment here besides the lights is the air conditioner, which does work well, and has a remote. I guess if I were to explain it in one word it would be "barren." So, at $60 a night, it's ok, but it isn't the fantastic deal that some here seem to want to portray it.

hello. my friend is going for a stag next week to cabo. any place for that type of entertainment close by the resorts? if so anyone know costs involved? thanks
Downtown there are quite a few places. The biggest is kitty corner from Cabo Wabo .... Costs are about as much as you'd expect to spend on the west coast of the US.
Depending on how far you're willing to go (and the girls will be very open minded) I'd expect to spend at least 300 USD per guy for a no hold barred time.
Or you can go to any one of the off downtown places that are a bit more seedy!
Personally, I dont see cabo as the best place to go for strippers and sex... its a lot more touristy and family oriented... unless you're there during spring break.
what about lap dances? i think last time i went years ago in west coast usa /canada was $25
If you're buying booze and having a good time, the girls will be sitting all over you... so dont worry about "buying" lap dances, as those are part of the big push to get more "business."
Main thing to remember is that the girls are a lot more aggressive about getting you to spend more.

Yes there are a few places that you are looking for. Like Lucas says , the 2 up top across from the Cabo Wabo corner are about the nicest run places. I was in both of them about 10-12 years ago. I just want to caution you......the 1 night I went to both of them , the lights came on part way into the night and we were all frisked. They took everything out of all of my pockets and layed it out on the table. Make sure you don't have anything they can nail you for ! All my cash was left alone.......
As fast as they were there , they were gone , lights back off and the girls were right back at the table. I don't suggest going but if you do , be smart. My first trip to Cabo I was single and wanted to know what they were all about. We had 1 drink and left. Not all that great of a place to be IMO. Cheers !
Especially what Judy says. I would have thought that everyone already knew and understood the "not all women are women" in Mexican strip clubs, etc.
I'l say that the massages are probably your best bet...
As to frisking, please remember that Mexico has a zero tolerance policy for drugs, even Marijuana. The strip club guys will offer you pretty much the full menu of drugs, but getting caught with even the smallest amount is a HUGE amount of trouble; Mexican prison type of trouble.
From Lucas's post..." I would have thought that everyone already knew and understood the "not all women are women" in Mexican strip clubs"
Lucas...probably the biggest shock to many of my clients from their feedback on return from Mexico ...is the shock that the women were NOT women!! Some people just don't get out much in small towns in Canada and USA !!! Second shock is that you can't get just a massage...without a horrible hassle...which I TOTALLY saw this past winter all over Cabo . So I warn my clients about both of these things...sort of like teaching school!!!
TravelJudy: Yikes, "Some people just don't get out much in small towns across Canada and USA )? I know people that don't get out much in very large cities. They either can't afford it just choose not to travel far! :)
what do you mean you cant get a massage without hassle? you mean they want you to buy sex?
There are massage places that will not hassle you..you may be "offered" but no hassle....
Lolo's by the Wyndam has been used by friends of mine...for years...
You can also get a good massage on the beach in front of the Sand Bar ...
There are many places tho that are all about the "other" services..

Cabo San Lucas – San Jose del Cabo, Los Cabos, Mexico
Some of the first visitor’s at Mermaids Gentleman’s Club, were American’s in Cabo San Lucas, looking for sexy, fun and exciting adult entertainment after a long hard day of fishing. When Mermaids first opened in 1990, it became one of the first clubs of its kind in Los Cabos. During the 1970’s and 80’s the location at Mermaids was a restaurant, but ever since 1990, when it was purchased and transformed into an adult entertainment locale, the only thing they serve is a sweet, seductive good time, with any one of their 25 beautiful ladies working Monday through Saturday from 7:00 PM until 5:00 AM, and closed Sundays. Mermaids offers guests a cozy and private VIP champagne room, with two-way mirrors, where they can view the wonderful ambiance and dancing, while enjoying a secluded good time in the company of Mermaid’s attractive, and tantalizingly seductive sweet ladies. Located at the northwest corner of Lazaro Cardenas Blvd. and Vicente Guerrero Street, Mermaid’s is directly across the street from the world famous Cabo Wabo Cantina. Returning visitors account for some of the happy clientele that enter Mermaid’s nightclub and enjoy the fruits of their hot and gorgeous entertainment. Mermaid’s features a full bar with exotic tequila’s, buckets of beer and intoxicatingly good alcoholic beverages and cocktails.
Their interior and exterior renovation of 2018, has done nothing but improve the sexiest club in Los Cabos, where their outstanding sweet and alluring service has remained completely intact, and where the biggest draw of their establishment is the beautiful and luscious array of young ladies.

18 Things You Absolutely Should Not Do in Cabo San Lucas
Trudy Traveler • Trip Planning & Travel for Everyday People Best of Trudy Traveler Follow On
Trip Planning and Travel for Everyday People
Cabo San Lucas has a lot to offer its visitors from beautiful beaches, amazing restaurants, a wide variety of water activities to nightlife that will keep you out until early morning hours. However, there are some specific things you should not do while in Cabo San Lucas.
Depending on where you are in Cabo, swimming in the ocean can be downright treacherous. Although there are several areas in Cabo San Lucas where swimming is allowed, absolutely do not swim on the Pacific side of Cabo due to its harsh waves and strong undercurrent. Instead, head to Medano, Santa Maria or Chileno Beach.
There are several pharmaceutical (Farmacia) shops in Cabo offering name brand medications such as Valium, Viagra, etc. You should know that bringing home prescription drugs without a prescription from a doctor is illegal and if caught at the airport you could be arrested. Do you really want to spend time in a Mexico jail? Friends, t he answer should be NO!
Speaking of drugs. If you are offered “party favors” while walking on the streets or along the beach while in Cabo, seriously just say no! The legal system in Mexico is not what you are used to so don’t risk it.
Cabo is a safe vacation destination if you travel smart. Be aware of your surroundings, in the evenings stay on the well-lit and populated streets. Don’t be flashy with your money or expensive jewelry and don’t take unneeded risks.
If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Walk away friends, just walk away!
The sun can be intense in Cabo, so whether walking around town or laying at the pool make sure you have sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses with you.
Check out 10 Must-Have Travel Products You’ll Wish You’d Found Sooner for more ideas on what to bring on your trip to Cabo.
There is an area before exiting the Los Cabos Airport that has been referred to as “the gauntlet.” After leaving Customs and Immigration you will exit through automatic doors into another room where you will find a swarm of individuals offering to help you.
These individuals will be very helpful and offer to help you find a taxi, shuttle, resorts, tours, carry your luggage, etc. J ust smile and keep walking because their goal is to convince you to attend a timeshare presentation . They are a convincing bunch with resort or shuttle names on their shirts, but again, smile and walk, walk, walk until you get outside . The people outside are the legitimate shuttle or hotel representatives.
The price of a taxi ride from the Los Cabos Airport to Cabo San Lucas is around $80 USD/1,487 pesos. You can get a much better deal with a shuttle. It is optimal to pre-book a shuttle through your hotel, resort or an independent company like Super Shuttle although you can also make arrangements at the airport.
For the most part, if you are staying in Cabo San Lucas, you won’t need a car. The exception would be if you have plans to travel to areas such as Todos Santos or La Paz. If this is the case, only rent a car for the actual days you need it or just kick back and relax and let a tour company drive you.
Cars and rental insurance in Mexico can be expensive. We have also found that signals and stop signs are more of a suggestion than a rule, so be alert. It is also difficult to find street parking in Cabo. So, I recommend saving your money and taking a cab or the bus.
Merchandise prices in the souvenir shops are often higher when the cruise ships are in port. They are in Cabo San Lucas three days a week, so shop for your souvenirs on other days. Hotel or resort staff can tell you the days cruise ships are in port.
If you are hoping to get the perfect picture of the bay and the iconic Land’s End rocks, snap that picture when you can. Once the cruise ships are in port, that is all you are going to see. Sometimes three ships will be in port at one time and will block your view.
Pay attention to where you are walking. The sidewalks in Cabo San Lucas are uneven, plus sidewalk height can vary drastically from building to building. At times you will find up to a 12-inch difference from one section of the sidewalk to the next. Streets can also be uneven or made of cobblestones so watch your step to avoid twisted ankles or worse.
There are many great restaurants just a short walk from the Marina with much better food and better prices. Get out and see what Cabo has to offer.
Most of the water and ice in hotels, resorts, and tourist restaurants are safe. Many offer purified bottled water and many of the resorts have desalination plants that purify the water on site. Be wary of water and ice when eating at restaurants off the beaten path and stick to bottled water and drinks without ice just to be safe. No one wants stomach issues when traveling.
More times than not, you will get a better exchange rate in Mexico. Money can be exchanged through ATMs, at the cash exchange booth at the airport, local banks, or at many of the larger resorts. Also, if using your credit card and you don’t have a foreign exchange rate fee, then pay in pesos when possible. Again, this usually results in the best exchange rate.
You know that amazing shirt you bought on the beach for $5? It’s best not to put it in the dryer. Hanging your new shirt to dry will prevent shrinkage and your dog from getting a new shirt from Cabo.
Friends, remember nothing is free in Mexi
