Project Management - Internship

Project Management - Internship

Digital nomads. Work from anywhere

Company: Blue Oak Consulting

This project management internship is centered on a high stakes engagement with a Portuguese financial services provider. You will help our team organize data and track workstreams as we interrogate the economics of their current portfolio and capital allocation strategies.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
As an intern, you will enter an environment where technical accuracy is much more important than presentation style. This is a fully remote position that requires a high degree of independence and self management. You will help monitor the progress of our review for the Portuguese financial services provider, looking past generic corporate language to help our team identify where financial logic might be thinning. Blue Oak operates as a small team, so your contributions to project coordination and data tracking will be immediately visible and highly valued. This is an opportunity to learn how a professional advisory firm manages complex projects from the inside without the distraction of office politics.
What You Will Be Doing
* Tracking project milestones and deadlines for the Portuguese financial services engagement.
* Checking data sets for consistency and flagging discrepancies in various financial models.
* Organizing documentation related to pricing strategies and capital allocation decisions.
* Preparing clear summaries of technical meetings to keep workstreams aligned across the team.
* Assisting in the collection of market benchmarks to test internal assumptions and projections.
* Maintaining the project schedule and identifying potential bottlenecks before they occur.

* Formatting data reports to ensure that findings are clear and evidence based.
* Supporting the senior principals with administrative tasks related to project delivery.
What You Bring
* A degree or current enrollment in finance, economics, business administration, or a similar field.

* An investigative mindset that naturally asks why a number looks the way it does.
* Strong written communication skills in English with a focus on clarity and brevity.
* The ability to manage your own time effectively in a 100 percent remote work environment.
* Attention to detail that catches small errors in large spreadsheets or documents.
* A preference for clear facts over vague descriptions or corporate jargon.
* A basic understanding of project management principles and organizational tools.
* Willingness to learn the specific methods we use to test financial assumptions.
What We Offer
* A fully remote work arrangement that offers flexibility and respects your autonomy.
* Competitive pay for a project management internship within the current market.
* Direct access to senior principals who are active in the work every day.
* Practical experience in high stakes financial advisory and independent consulting.
* The opportunity to work on a major project for a Portuguese financial services firm.
* A workplace culture that values honesty and technical discipline.
* Hands on training in how to build and interrogate economic models.
At Blue Oak, we believe that the best work comes from small teams who are deeply accountable for every conclusion they reach. We do not hide behind broad strategies: we stay through the execution of our advice to see if it holds up in the real world. This internship is designed for someone who wants to understand how financial decisions are made and who values the discipline required to see a project through to completion. You will leave this role with a better understanding of how capital really moves and how projects are managed when the stakes are high and the data is complex.
