Project Management - Internship

Project Management - Internship

Digital nomads. Work from anywhere

Company: Blue Oak Consulting

This internship supports our work with a major UK infrastructure group that is currently expanding its operations and logistics capabilities. You will assist in the coordination and analysis of project data to ensure commercial assumptions remain grounded in financial reality.
About Blue Oak Consulting
Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high level strategy decks. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like software, manufacturing, and healthcare to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism. We stay through the execution phase because decisions that look sound in theory often fail when they meet real world friction.
The Role
In this remote position, you will work closely with our senior principals on complex advisory engagements. You will help monitor the progress of specific workstreams, ensuring that data requests are met and that our financial findings are organized for review. This is not a role for someone who wants to hide behind spreadsheets: it requires an investigative mindset and the willingness to ask why certain numbers look the way they do. You will be helping us maintain the discipline required to tell our clients the truth about their commercial decisions. Working as part of a distributed team, you will learn how to manage project timelines while keeping a sharp eye on the underlying data.
What You Will Be Doing
* Organizing project timelines and tracking milestones for the infrastructure group engagement.
* Gathering and cleaning financial data from various sources to be used in our economic models.
* Maintaining clear documentation of the assumptions used in pricing and capital allocation models.
* Helping prepare reports that highlight where financial data contradicts the established project narrative.
* Coordinating with client teams to collect necessary information for our ongoing reviews.
* Reviewing project logs to identify potential delays or friction points in the execution phase.
* Assisting in the creation of performance dashboards that track project economics over time.
* Documenting internal meetings and ensuring that follow up actions are assigned and tracked.
What You Bring
* A recent degree or current studies in finance, economics, business, or a related field.
* A high level of comfort with Excel and a willingness to learn more advanced data handling.
* The ability to work independently in a fully remote environment without constant supervision.
* Strong attention to detail: you should be the person who notices when numbers do not add up.
* Clear communication skills and the ability to explain complex findings in plain language.
* A healthy curiosity about how businesses actually make money and where they lose it.
* The capacity to handle multiple small tasks at once while keeping the big picture in mind.
* A disciplined approach to deadlines and the ability to ask for clarification when a task is unclear.
What We Offer
* Fully remote work environment that offers flexibility and professional autonomy.
* A paid internship with a monthly compensation package that is competitive for the market.
* Direct access to the firm's principals and exposure to high stakes commercial advisory work.
* Training in our specific methodology for interrogating financial assumptions and P&L structures.
* The chance to work on large scale projects with a major UK infrastructure group.
* Practical experience in project management and financial analysis that goes beyond theoretical models.
* A work culture that values direct honesty over corporate polish and buzzwords.
Blue Oak Consulting is built on the idea that financial discipline is the only way to make sound commercial decisions. We value people who are skeptical, thorough, and uninterested in the typical jargon that often obscures real problems. By joining us, you will see how projects actually function when they meet real world pressure. We focus on the work that matters, ensuring that capital is allocated where it can truly generate value. This position is a full time commitment that provides a clear view into the mechanics of high level financial advisory.
