This article walks you through a few different ways to make your number private so that when you call someone, your phone number isn't displayed on their caller ID.
One of the quickest and easiest ways to hide your number from the person you're calling is to use the *67 trick when you're dialing. That will make your number register as 'Private' to the person you call. You'll have to do it for every call you want to make with a hidden number, but if you only need to hide your number now and then, this is a good option for keeping your number private.
Almost all Android devices on most mobile carriers offer the option of hiding your number by default, making it unnecessary to input *67 every time you call. Here's how to block your cell phone number using your phone's built-in Hide Number feature.
If you don't have the option to Hide Number after following the steps below, it's possible your carrier or device doesn't support it.
Select the Phone (or Telephone ) icon in your app menu or at the bottom of your device's home screen.
Select the three-dot menu icon in the top-right of the window.
Select Additional settings (It could also be Supplementary settings ).
When it's finished loading, select Caller ID .
Select Hide Number from the pop-up menu.
This no caller ID trick will make it so that your number never shows up when you ring someone. Instead, it will display as Blocked , Private , or No Caller ID . If you want your number to display again temporarily, you can preface the number you're calling with *82 . Alternatively, if you want to turn off your number block, repeat the steps above, and at the last one, select Network Default or Show Number .
If your device doesn't have the option to block your number directly, then you may need to ask your carrier to do it for you. Sometimes this can be completed with the official application.
If the above call blocking services don't support your device within the official apps, try contacting your carrier directly. They can usually block your ID for you.
If none of the above no caller ID tricks work, you can buy a prepaid phone , often referred to as a burner or disposable number. Many paid-for services let you route your calls, texts, and picture messages through a temporary number.
There are some calls that you can't hide your number from. Toll-free services and 911 emergency services will always be able to see your number, whatever you do. Some third-party applications can allow someone to get around any number obfuscation you put in place, so none of these methods are guaranteed.

Almost everything you do on the internet starts with a DNS query, so having secure communication with a DNS provider is essential. This is where Android’s Private DNS feature comes into play.
DNS is a building block of the modern internet. It acts as a directory or phonebook and helps you reach wherever you want to go on the web.
For example, when you want to visit How-To Geek, you simply type howtogeek.com in the address bar of a web browser. But, unfortunately, your web browser doesn’t know how to get to How-To Geek. That’s where DNS comes into the picture. Your web browser asks the DNS server, typically run by your internet service provider (ISP) or cellular network, which converts the howtogeek.com domain name to an IP address , like 151.101.2.217 . With the IP address in hand, your web browser can now connect to your favorite resource for how-to articles.
But traditionally, the DNS queries and their responses were sent without any kind of security or encryption, making them vulnerable to eavesdropping or man-in-the-middle attacks . So, a new DNS protocol—DNS over TLS—was introduced. It creates a secure channel between your web browser and the DNS server and safeguards your DNS traffic from prying eyes and malicious third parties. DNS over TLS isn’t the only secure DNS protocol, DNS over HTTPS is another protocol that is used widely.
Google has brought DNS over TLS support to Android by introducing the Private DNS feature. It’s available in Android 9 (Pie) and higher, and encrypts all DNS traffic on the phone, including from apps.
The feature is enabled by default and uses a secure channel to connect to the DNS server if the server supports it. But if your ISP or cell service provider’s DNS doesn’t have encrypted DNS support, or you are simply not sure about it, you can use a third-party secure DNS server using the Private DNS feature. Here’s how to enable, disable, or use a private DNS provider in Android.
Keep in mind that depending on your Android model, the exact path and labels might vary. The basic process, however, remain the same.
To manage Private DNS options, swipe down from the top of your device to access the notification shade and tap the gear icon. This will take you to device settings. You can also reach the settings page from the apps drawer.
Once you are in the settings, tap “Network & Internet.” Depending on your device, this might have a slightly different name, like “Connections.”
Now tap on “Private DNS” to manage the feature. If you don’t immediately see the “Private DNS” option, you may have to tap on “More Connection Settings” or “Advanced.”
You will get three options: Off, Automatic, and Private DNS provider hostname. You can select “Off” to stop using DNS over TLS, “Automatic” to use encrypted DNS when available, or write the hostname of a private DNS provider to use encrypted DNS from that provider. Remember, rather than DNS server IPs, you need a hostname.
Once done, tap on “Save” to apply the changes.
As explained above, Android’s Private DNS feature brings DNS over TLS support to the platform. Unfortunately, while its “Automatic” option uses secure DNS when available, you are at the mercy of your ISP or cell service provider to offer encrypted DNS support. Your ISP may not want to do that.
But there is an easy way to check. You can confirm whether your internet provider supports TLS protocol for DNS encryption by using Avast-owned company Tenta’s Browser Privacy Test . It shows if your ISP’s DNS is TLS enabled or not.

The first method of making a private call is to change the phone’s settings. Fortunately, there is a simple trick that you can call your friends privately. The good news is that it doesn’t depend on the manufacturer of the phone, as it comes with all Android phones running the newer version of Android.
The following are the specific steps:
The second and most common method of making a private call is to use a special code before a friend’s number so that your caller ID will not be displayed when you call him.
All you need to perform this way is to find the code of your network provider that lets you call private without showing your caller ID.
The most common code for this is *67, which works with any North American network provider, including the United States, except AT&T which works with #31#, Canada’s landline and New Zealand, if you are subscribed to Vodafone.
#31# also applies to any Australian provider, along with Albanian, Argentinian, Bulgarian, and Danish providers.
It doesn’t stop there, as #31# is also suitable for network providers in France, the Netherlands, Greece, India, Italy, the Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and even Sweden.
There are many other codes for the other countries like 133 on Hong Kong, 184 on Japan, 141 on the United Kingdom and republic of Ireland and others.
In general, #31# works with almost any Android phone, but you may need to do some digging on Google to find the code that allows you to block your caller ID according to your country and your service provider.
Once you find the proper code for your country and your service provider, open the Phone application and type it before typing your friend’s number.
Hey! We are on April, and nothing will be better that taking your friends mobile phone and change your name into Unknown Number and then call him from your phone.
This could be a little harder than the other methods, but it’s the funniest one of them all. Just be careful to not let your friend catch you while you are changing your name.
This method is so easy and we all know it, just grant access to your friend’s phone, open Contacts application, search for your number and modify its name to Unknown Number.
If you are really serious about calling someone with a private call, my advice is to contact your service provider and ask them to hide your number .
This method may cause you some charges, and it might be available in countries but not the others, but it worth mentioning as it’s the most trustworthy method to completely hide your number even from those who use some applications that shows the unknown numbers or block them.

In the time we can hide our numbers by adjusting our phone’s settings, we can also block unknown calls from it easily.
If you are using a stock Android system like what we find on Google Pixel phones, you may not find Block Unknown Callers option on your Phone’s Settings.
In order to overcome this problem, you can download Should I Answer application that allows you to block unknown calls .
After downloading and installing Should I Answer application, head into the settings, and you will a find a section called Block INCOMING Calls from with a list below it, select the numbers you want to block, including Hidden Numbers, which refers to the unknown numbers, and you are now protected from those who try to fool you.
Note : Don’t forget to grant the permissions required for the application to allow it control your Phone application and the others.
You can also block the SMS from the spammers like those who are not stored in your contacts list or local negative rated numbers and others by scrolling down to Block SMS & MMS from section.
By reaching this line, you are now able to make a private call from your Android phone to others and to protect yourself from spammers, unknown callers and even any caller that is not stored in your contacts list.
