'Private Your Tech' Rules

'Private Your Tech' Rules

Private Your Tech

πŸ“œ The following rules apply to all PYT groups

  1. Before posting a question or starting a debate over something, make sure to read the FAQ, just in case there is an answer already.
    πŸ”— Open FAQs
Suggesting improvements to the FAQ is always welcome. We're always looking to expanding it.
  2. Create an environment where people are comfortable and not afraid to speak or ask questions.
This means: No flaming, personal bashing, excessive trolling, out of control arguments, and similar behavior.

Atmosphere is very important to us, and if you consistently make people feel uncomfortable or unwelcome, or display obnoxious behavior, we will have to remove you.

If something gets out of hand, reply with "/report" and let the mods handle it. Don’t take moderation into your own hands.
  3. Everyone deserves equal treatment and equal respect.
No gatekeeping! Everyone is joining from different stages in their privacy journey, so instead of disrespecting others, share ideas and information with them to help them grow.
  4. Do not generalize other people's needs or threat models. Avoid absolutes.
Every member has different needs and requirements. Do not impose your generalizations onto others or needlessly scare them. Always have other's needs in mind when giving recommendation. Not everyone is you.
  5. To incorporate all ages and demographics, NSFW topics and content are strictly not allowed.
This includes – but is not limited to – videos or images depicting sexual actions, whether real or illustrated; verbal descriptions of sexual acts; and any other discussions related to these topics.
  6. Discriminatory jokes and hate speech are not allowed.
Hate speech is an attack on an individual or group based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or disabilities.
This includes slurs, active and passive.
  7. All illegal content is strictly prohibited.
This includes (but is not limited to) illegal licenses or key generators, β€˜cracked’ software, illegal media content, personal threats, and other such topics and behavior. It is of the utmost importance that the security and privacy community is completely disassociated with illegal activities.
  8. Respect the moderators and all moderator decisions.
Do not argue with the moderator either in chat or in direct messages, nor make any attempts to circumvent any actions they have taken. Not respecting this policy may result in an immediate ban.
  9. Keep the content in the main group serious and helpful.
We value high-quality discussions and recommendations in the main group over noise. For off-topic conversations, please visit the PYT Off-topic group.

Do not regularly remove your messages soon after sending them.
This a.) destroys valuable chat history other people may learn from, and b.) upsets members who answered your question and now their messages appear as a one-sided monologue. You should write messages you will be proud of in the future as well, and feel no constant pressure to remove them!

You can report a message, that is violating the rules, by replying to it with "/report".

How we handle warnings:

If you violate one or multiple of the rules above, you will receive a verbal or formal warning, depending on the severity. Moderators may also temporarily mute you or remove you from the community. Most bans take place after three warnings, but this is up to the moderation team's discretion and depends on the severity.

If you use a channel to chat as, the warning system does not apply. If it shows that you cannot be trusted to talk as a channel, because of trolling, toxicity, or other misbehavior, that privilege will be revoked, and you will only be able to chat using your personal account.
