For it's time it was probably quite enlightened but now it's woefully dated. Colbert was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar and while she's competent as usual they is nothing extraordinary about her work here.

I'm really glad I've read it for completeness it but it wasn't the page turner of the previous two books. I think if you've loved the first two you'll enjoy this one, same writing style, same characters, just a quieter time of rebuilding in Austria.

It’s now the early 1950s, and Julia and her new journalist husband (Georgy, a long-time friend) are back in Vienna, rebuilding lives damaged by war. However, the floodgates of the past and the Nazi time are opened by the reappearance of a former SS general, who played a role in both Julia and Georgy’s lives: “His survival was like an unsuspected, rusted and unexploded shell-case ...” The story gives excellent insight
