Discord can feel like an ocean sometimes with walls of text rapidly flooding your screen. Interesting conversations can be confusing to follow in the middle of other conversations and may just disappear entirely.
With Threads , you can belong to any conversation important to you and follow at your own pace.
No, this is not the new drip we are selling in the merch store.
Threads allow multiple topics in a channel to exist and grow with their own dedicated space temporarily without having to commit to a new channel for the server. They make it easier to follow along with an unexpected topic that gains popularity and eliminates confusion when multiple, big topics are happening within a single channel.
In order to use threads, you will need these permissions
To create a Thread, hover over the message you would like to create a thread from and press on the # icon to create a thread.
You can also create a new thread by pressing the + button in your chat bar
You may choose the duration of your thread with the Archive After Inactivity drop-down menu:
Threads will automatically archive once it becomes inactive after a set amount of time. If you would like to manually archive the thread, you may press on the 3 dots(...) at the top right side of the threads window and press Archive Thread .
After a thread has been archived, you will see a banner at the top of the thread to allow you to unarchive the thread via a button, or someone can type in the thread to unarchive it.
You can delete a thread by pressing on the 3 dots (...) at the top right side of the threads window and press Delete Thread. This will remove the thread entirely. There will be no way to recover the thread once deleted.
To discover threads in a channel, navigate to the thread discovery button at the top of the channel.
Once you press the thread navigation button, you can now browse all threads in the channel.
To join an active thread, first press on the thread in the thread discovery tab, or press See Thread > on a thread you see in chat. An active thread is signified with a # plus a speech bubble icon
Once you opened the thread, press Join .
To leave a thread that you joined, Navigate to the three dots (...) at the top right of the thread and press Leave Thread .
Additionally, we also have specific Thread perks with Server Boosting for archive time and private threads.
For now, Threads will not be enabled by default for Community servers. However, once you get access, you will have a new server settings tab on the web or in your client called “Threads Early Access.”
From there, you can turn it on by clicking “Enable Threads,” and customize your Thread permissions for your community (e.g. enable in specific channels or disable for certain roles). Otherwise , on August 17th, Thread permissions will be default-on for all Community servers too.
How do thread notification settings work?
You can change your notification setting on a thread and set it to all messages/mentions only / no messages.
Searching in a channel will include results from all threads in that channel
Can I access and use Threads on mobile?
iOS and Android users won’t see Threads-specific features listed within the mobile app’s “Server Boost” menu until later in August, but you’ll still be able to access and use those features if your server’s boosted enough.

You can write multithreaded applications in Microsoft Visual C# .NET or in Visual C#. This article describes how a simple Visual C# application can create and manage threads.
Original product version: Visual C#
Original KB number: 815804
The following list outlines the recommended hardware, software, network infrastructure, and service packs that you need:
This article assumes that you are familiar with the following topics:
This article refers to the .NET Framework Class Library namespace System.Threading .
Start Visual Studio .NET, Visual Studio, or Visual C# Express Edition.
Create a new Visual C# Windows Application project named ThreadWinApp .
Add a Button control to the form. By default, the button is named Button1 .
Add a ProgressBar component to the form. By default, the progress bar is named ProgressBar1 .
Right-click the form, and then click View Code .
Add the following statement to the beginning of the file:
Add the following button1_Click event handler for Button1:
Add the following variable to the Form1 class:
Add the following method to the Form1 class:
This is the code that underlies the thread. This code is an infinite loop that randomly increments or decrements the value in ProgressBar1, and then waits 100 milliseconds before it continues.
Add the following Form1_Load event handler for Form1. This code creates a new thread, makes the thread a background thread, and then starts the thread.
Build and run the application. Notice that the value in ProgressBar1 changes randomly. This is the new thread in operation.
To demonstrate that the main thread is independent of the thread that changes the value of ProgressBar1, click the button on the form. You receive a dialog box with the following error message:
Wait for input. Notice that the value in ProgressBar1continues to change.
In more complex applications, make sure that you synchronize multiple threads when you access shared variables. For more information, see the lock statement and related topics in the Visual C# .NET online help documentation.
For more information, see Thread Class .
