Steam shares your gameplay activity by default. If you’re playing Hello Kitty: Island Adventure or Bad Rats , you might want to keep your gameplay a secret. Here’s how to hide your Steam activity from your friends.
Your Steam profile page normally lists all the games you’ve been playing and shows how many hours you’ve spent in all of them, focusing on what you’ve been playing in the last two weeks.
Steam profiles used to be public by default, but Valve made them private by default. Still, you may have made it public to work with a third-party service that reads information from your Steam profile, like IsThereAnyDeal , which scans your wishlist for games and lets you know if they’re for sale on other game stores.
To access your profile in Steam, hover over your username on the top bar and click “Profile.”
Click the “Edit Profile” button at the right side of the page to edit your profile.
Click “Privacy Settings” at the left side of your page to find Steam’s profile privacy options.
Adjust the privacy settings here to control what people can see. To hide gameplay, you have two options.
To hide gameplay information, set “Game details” to “Private.” Not even your friends will be able to see the games you’re playing, the games you own, or the games you’ve wishlisted. They can still see your friends list, inventory, comments, and other information, depending on the options you have selected on this page.
You could also just hide everything by setting the “My Profile” option to Private . If you do, no one can see your entire profile page. You can also select “Friends Only,” and only your Steam friends will be able to see your profile.
If you’re only kind-of embarrassed about the game you’re currently playing—maybe you don’t care if it’s listed on your profile page but you don’t want all your friends getting a notification that you’ve started playing the game or see that you’re playing it on their friends list—you can go offline or become invisible on Steam chat.
To do so, click the “Friends” button near the top left of the Steam window and select “Offline” or “Invisible.”
Alternatively, you can click “Friends & Chat” in the bottom right-hand corner to bring up the Steam Chat window.
Then click the small chevron (like an arrow, without the tail) next to your username. Select “Invisible” or “Offline” from the drop down menu.
If you’d like to hide a game from the Steam library on your PC, you can set it to “Hidden” or remove it from your Steam library .
Right-click the game, mouse over “Manage,” and then click “Hide this game.”
People with access to game details on your profile will still be able to see any achievements and playtime you have in that game. However, anyone with access to your PC won’t see the game in your normal Steam library.
With Steam now offering adult-only games and other not-safe-for-work (NSFW) material, the ability to hide games you’re playing only becomes more important. But it’s useful even if you’ve been playing other games, like Bad Rats , that you don’t want anyone else knowing about.

If you have a private profile, why is it private?

Just curious. This isn't exactly Facebook. What is it about your Steam profile that you feel the need to set it to private?

Why are you even asking this question?... The whole reason behind it is because they want it to remain their business and not yours, which instantly defeats the purpose of this thread. Goodbye.

The question should be if your steam profile is public then why is it public? By default you shouldn't give strangers or Internet databases any information about you that you don't need to divulge in order to accomplish your goals. If you don't have a reason to share information about yourself on the Internet then you shouldn't do it. It's that simple. It doesn't matter whether the information is as trivial as your favorite breakfast cereal or as important as your social security number. You should never share it in any way that creates a permanent record beyond your control without a good reason.

I have no issue with my profile being public, but it's nice to know that the choice is there in case I change my mind.

Mine is only private to non steam members.

I like my privacy and I don't like annoying users sifting through my groups, friends list, or games I own. If I had the option to I'd make my avatar appear as friends only as well. IMO there needs to be more privacy options. No this isn't facebook but I expect a decent variety of options regarding privacy. If you had any common sense you'd know that some people like having privacy away from random internet users.

Because it is. I set it like that a year ago and haven't changed it back yet.

Because I want my friendslist to be private atm, my profile is visible to friends of my friends so it's not completely secluded.

Something went wrong. Wait a moment and try again.
You can’t. The private option is there so that others cannot look at your profile. If you could get around it it would be utterly useless!

Yes. There are a few tools that help you that. But you need to research carefully to find one. Personally I used this and it worked several times. It does not require any personal information so you don’t need to worry about privacy problem. You just submit a private username, that’s all. You can check it here.

If you don’t want to send a follow request and wait without any idea as to when the request will be approved (or if the owner will accept it at all), you may want to try Google.
This trick is anchored on the idea that internet search engines don’t forget. Although one can establish access restrictions as soon as they’ve joined Instagram, a good number of users do it after they’ve successfully established their brand. Google keeps all the posts they made when the account was public and provides this information with a quick search. All you need to do is enter their name, include “Instagram” in your query, and then hit the search button.
If a Google search doesn’t yield much, you could also check their other social media accounts. Most people run multiple social media accounts, especially those who want to tap different markets and impress users who prefer one platform over the other. A person’s Instagram bio can give you leads that may help you find their other social media accounts much faster.
You can also pick a photo – if you’ve been lucky enough to find one – and do a reverse image search which might land you on their Facebook or LinkedIn pages.
You could discover a library of photos or some other useful information this way, which might be enough for your needs.
2 - Do a Search on Other Social Networks:
Most of the time, people on Instagram have profiles on other social media networks, like Twitter and Facebook.
If you aren’t able to find your target on Instagram, you can look at other social networks where they are most likely going to share a link to their Instagram profile.
Of course, there is always a chance that the other social networks are going to be restricted.
However, this method is still worth a try, because you might be able to see some of their posts on other platforms.
The other good thing about this method is that it isn’t technically unethical.
3 - Create Another Instagram Account With These Tips:
This can be a efficient way to view private Instagram profiles photos and posts.
You may follow some tricks to make your Fake Profile Genuine so that your follow request will get accepted in one go:
