I really enjoyed this story. As others have noted, it is a powerful story of forgiveness and redemption. I don't understand how all of the editing issues were left resolved. There are several errors including basic usage, punctuation, capitalization, and verb tense. The punctuation of dialogue is so poor that at times I had to re-read passages to determine who was speaking. I am an English teacher, and I realize I am probably more cognizant of these issues because I edit hundreds of papers, but the mistakes are basic and blatant, which is too bad because it takes away from an otherwise well-written story.

Rather good book. I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I find all the of the characters majorly flawed in their own unique ways. I'd recommend the book to just about anyone, Christian or not. Three stars for me however as Theo didn't live up to my expectations. Forgiveness means more than knowing someone is sorry, especially as a Christian. I found that as commonly expected, we forgive, but leave out the most important thing, unconditional love. So for me, forgiving your wife is one thing, but not really forgiving Chris is another.. the two go hand in hand. Biggest blunder I couldn't get over was how he could not include Chris in his own child's life... I'm sorry but that is unwarranted and selfish. That decision shouldn't be based on anything but what's right and best for the baby, not him and his wife. So at the ending I was just left upset saying what?! I see that there is a fourth book in the series that covers this but I just don't have the heart to read it and get annoyed at how they are behaving when all Chris wants is to be apart of his sons life. Flawed characters is as best as it gets.

*What Sandra Thought* “Private Sins” is a controversial story of love, lust, envy, and adultery. Kelly is a preacher’s wife who cheated on her husband because she got tired of playing second fiddle to his responsibilities to the church. She had an affair with an ex-boyfriend who happened to be the first elder of their church. That affair resulted in a baby. She will not be able to hide the paternity of her child for long though. Buddha once said, “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon and the truth.” Wow, this story had my emotions feeling like they were in a blender (all mixed up). After reading the synopsis I had my mind made up that I would hate this woman for what she did to husband and family. And I did for about 80% of the book. I just could not empathize with Kelly. But then her husband Theo was reflecting on the situation and said, “There was something about losing the most important thing in your life to make you appreciative of what you have…” Then I had my “Come to Jesus Moment” and realized that Kelly was only human and we all are susceptible to fall into temptation and make mistakes. By then end I was rooting for Kelly’s husband to forgive her. “Private Sins” by Brenda Barrett has shown me that the lesson is that you can still make mistakes and be forgiven.

I was on the edge of my seat for this story....very laid-back ending but no less interesting....glad to see that forgiveness willed out....and Kelly and Theo could live happier ever after for the present. I LOVED the descriptions of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, since I will never see them....could almost feel the sea breezes.....

I loved this story but here's the problem. I could only give this book three stars. It had SO many grammatical and punctuation errors in it that it appeared to have been digitally published without any editing or proofreading! How does this happen?! So many stories, such great potential, significantly diminished with editable and fixable flaws. I just don't understand. It was hard for me to get through it--I almost gave up a few times trying to get to the end of the story. The characters were so well developed, you could almost feel the tension and stress Kelly was experiencing. Your heart broke for Theo. So well written, so badly proofread and edited! As an avid reader, it's almost painful to read material rife with mistakes and bad punctuation. I am now struggling with the decision to purchase Book 2, about Kelly's sister Erica. I want to continue the story but do not want to wade through more poor grammar and punctuation. Please authors, please hire a professional, someone proficient to read your manuscript and help you fix it up before sending to Amazon for publishing!

By: Brenda Barrett Published By: Jamaica Treasures Age Recommended: Adult Reviewed By: Arlena Dean Series: Three Rivers #1 Rating: 5 Review: "Private Sins" by Brenda Barrett was indeed a wonderful read. This was my first read by this author and I was very impressed with its realistic storyline that deals with 'betrayal, adultery, love and forgiveness.' The characters were all very well developed and well portrayed, colorful and believable. In the end you are only left wanting the entire series: 'Three Rivers.' Book Descriptions: "Kelly was in deep trouble; her husband was a pastor and she his loyal first lady. Well she was...until she had an affair with Chris; the first elder of their church. And now she was pregnant with his child. Could she keep the secret from her husband and pretend that all was well? Or should she confess her private sin and let the chips fall where they may?" "Private Sins" was definitely a novel that was hard to put down and will leave you with only a good moral thoughts behind this awesome story that I would recommend as a excellent read.

Wonderful Christian fiction

Brenda Barrett has produced a great book that explores the challenges of adultery in a sensitive way. Her characters are beautifully written so they are all believable and their motivations are clear, without becoming two stereotypes. It is so easy for an author to rely on set beliefs and not delve deep into the longings of people's hearts. What makes this book five star for me is the way that God is interwoven through it. There are no glib spiritual solutions offered but the amazing way God can help people to reach their best in Him, despite their mistakes. Well worth reading!

Brilliant!!!

Truly engaging book, I could hardly put it down. Marriage is such a sacred bond and something that needs to be cherished. As this book highlights, choosing a life partner should be done wisely. The power of forgiveness in a marriage is fundamental to the strength of a marriage regardless of how others may view the relationship.

Really good read!

I would have given this book 5 stars but I feel it left out a bit detail. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to reading more books by this author. There wasn't really anything I disliked this book and felt sympathy for all the main characters; you could really feel their pain. I would recommend this book to young adults and middle aged people, Christian and non Christians. Enjoyed the Author's style of writing. The length of the book was ideal and kept me engaged to the end. A really good read!

Captivating Story Line...I couldn't put my kindle down

Absolutely loved this book! It deals with the 'worst-case' scenario for a Pastor...Adultery in the leadership of a church. This is something that is publicly unspoken of, so it was nice to have this book tell a story which almost reflected the relationship Hosea had with his wife Gomer. In this case Kelly was a toned-down, remorseful Gomer - and Theo was a 'wannabe' Hosea; He got there in the end! Looking forward to reading the sequel in the Three Rivers Series!

Private Sins

The story was predictable, but was really well written ans still kept me engaged & in suspense. The author has touched on real life issues and has shown that even the pastor family is not exempt to serious marriage issues. This is the first time I have read Brenda Barrett books and intend to keep reading her books
