Parent : I have friends who are attending various private and public schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area from grades 5 on through 12. In sitting down with the other dads it is undoubtedly true that no school has done more to prepare post the outbreak of the pandemic then St Mark’s. Not only their children but their administration and teachers are out of this world! Not only did the school literally review replace hundreds of things across the campus, they’ve also implemented a fantastic screening program, testing program, and communications program for SARS-COVID19. I know that when selecting schools grades, scores and college admissions are the number one priority. I never thought I would pick a school based upon their ability to handle a medical global outbreak. The school has literally blown us away! We are thankful that our son is there and hope that other schools can use them as a benchmark going into the winter of the pandemic. Read 64 Reviews
Junior : An excellent education, especially with the upper school. Hands-on teachers, willing to help with anything. Great student body, and lots of wonderful extracurriculars. Facilities are top-notch, lots of space and natural light. Good performing arts program, as well as visual arts. Humanity classes are some of the best in the country. The only issue I have is with the math curriculum and how they use Problem-Based learning. Excellent and approachable college counselors. It is not a surprise that this is one of the best schools in the country. Read 67 Reviews
Alum : Horace Mann has developed to be more diverse, inclusive staff wise in recent years which makes the school experience much better. After recently graduating, I feel that HM has prepared me for the competitive nature of college and working. There are a few things that could have been improved when I was there (like a more diverse teaching staff, putting more focus on racial issues, etc.), but have since been focused and improved on! Parent : My son joined Collegiate last Year as a seventh grader. The school is wonderful and it accommodate my son perfectly. The school assigned French and Music teachers for my son for the entire year since he didn’t have French or bass instrument before, at the end of the year he didn’t just catch up with the other kids but he also became proficient in both subjects and we couldn’t ask for more. On the other hand, the school environment and the parents are welcoming. As a family of color our experience of the diversity, inclusion, and belongings was excellent and our son fit perfectly at Collegiate. Read 25 Reviews
Parent : Brearley is a top notch, wonderful school! My 8-year-old daughter is thriving, happy and growing leaps and bounds every year. The Brearley community is warm, down to earth and diverse. The administration and the teachers will go above and beyond for your daughter and your family. While it has always been an academic powerhouse, it is also a school that encourages all of it's students to be creative and unique individuals, while learning to embrace Brearley's core values of "honesty, kindness, respect, responsibility and courage." We are lucky to be a part of the Brearley community. Read 67 Reviews
Sophomore : Transferring to the Nueva Upper School was the best decision of my life. I now get to take classes that satisfy my academic curiosity! I left my old school because I felt that it was lacking in STEM classes, and Nueva has fulfilled my desire to learn more about physics, computer science, and math, beyond the AP curriculum. Nueva's community is so incredible and I truly feel welcome at school. The Student Council always makes sure that all voices are heard, and no student is left without support. I find myself excited to go to school every day because each lesson is unique and inspiring. As Nueva continues to grow, I can't wait to see what the upper school will soon become. Go Mavericks! Senior : I had a great experience with Sidwell! I attended for 13 years (K-12) and have very few complaints. The teachers were all deeply invested in students' success, each campus was beautiful and well stocked, and the student body was more kind and welcoming than I've ever seen anywhere else. The small class sizes were one of the best parts for me, in high school I never had a class of more than 20 students and sometimes had classes as small as 11 students! There's a lot of academic rigor but also a really caring community. Also, very good food! Read 60 Reviews
Junior : GDS is in so many ways an ideal learning environment. The teachers are engaging, supportive, and rigorous, the extracurriculars are multifaceted and enjoyable, the athletics are fun and competitive. GDS exemplifies it’s mission, as it leaves students more prepared for life after high school, while instilling them with a crucial sense of right and wrong, and the tools to go out into the world and right some of those wrongs. More than anything else, GDS is what it is because of the students. Collaborative, intellectual, kind, and engaging, the community truly is like no other. People genuinely care about both each other and the school, and that aditude leads to a community that isn’t just in school from 8:15-3:15 and then gone, but one that keeps the building lively at all hours. GDS is truly an incredible place, and I hope that this convinces someone to either apply or attend. I promise you won’t regret it! Read 45 Reviews
Senior : While yes, the academics are incredibly rigorous, and Dalton prepares us well for equally rigorous collegiate study, the methods with which certain students achieve in the high-school are often questionable, often downright immoral. 'Tutors' are rampant, brown-nosing is expected and encouraged, and the strict rules against cheating are often selectively enforced. Often success is directly correlated with socio-economic class, and what tier of donor you are. The fact is though, Dalton is almost certainly the least heinous offender of the aforementioned shady business within the private school circle, and the administration is at least attempting to reform itself. So if you are committed to sending your child to an elite/elitist NYC school, Dalton is probably your best option. Read 77 Reviews
Senior : Despite creating a stressful environment at times, Rye Country Day exposed me to opportunities I never knew existed and helped me develop into a better student. The teachers really care about their students and there are venues for anyone with a passion to explore that passion further. As a soon to be alumnus, I highly recommend this school! Read 91 Reviews
Senior : I have gone to Spence my entire life and I am so grateful for that experience! I definitely enjoyed high school the most out of my 13 years there because of the opportunities, teachers, friends and unique learning experience. I feel close to all the staff and administration there and I truly believe that they want to help you succeed. Read 27 Reviews
Senior : I’m currently a senior at RCS. I uphold a similar sentiment to everyone else who has acclaim for the institution: for its academic prowess. Nonetheless, I consider Riverdale not only an academically-enriching environment but also one which advances personal character and intellectual independence. Riverdale is not an ordinary, textbook-based, question-and-answer institution. Rather, it fulfills the student’s curiosity by challenging their personal intellectual interests and their personal thinking mechanisms. All students at Riverdale share similar passions yet among them is a thorough diversity of the same. I can affirm to all that Riverdale transformed the manner in which I hypothesize, observe, and deduce regarding academic and real-world subject matter. The student body is ultimately integrated, and all students are bound by a unanimous appreciation for enlightenment and sheer enjoyment for an unparalleled experience. Read 45 Reviews
Middle School Student : As a student at the Pingry School, I have to say that it's an excellent school to be in. The food is great, the teachers are welcoming, and the classes are helpful on educational levels. The homework isn't heavy, and everyone there tries their best to keep their life goals in mind. I would totally recommend this school! Learning here has been the best experience of my life, and, there is inclusion in sports and activities. There are so much things that are amazing about this school. Read 98 Reviews
Alum : I had an amazing experience at The Harker School, partly due to my transformative athletic experience in the high school. Harker's athletic directors and coaches work hard to facilitate a high quality student-athlete experience, and they are constantly improving the facilities so that the available equipment is state-of-the-art. I am sure that the skills of time management and teamwork that I developed as an athlete bolstered my performance in the Harker classroom, and since I was studying so much, it was very healthy for me to be committed to a physical extracurricular activity through team sports. From my experience, like the teachers who work at Harker, the coaches in Harker athletics care deeply about the overall well-being of Harker students and understand that rigorous sports not only can complement but also can support and extend the rigor of intellectual pursuit. I can't recommend Harker athletics and Harker coaches enough! Read 135 Reviews
Senior : The Westminster Schools is a great institution for a high schooler's education. The teachers are great, the school spirit and athletic department is exceptional, and each student graduates fully prepared for college and a future career. It is not completely perfect, however. Diversity is not the best at Westminster from a percentage standpoint, and it does not seem that much is done about it. The school also puts each student under intense pressure to succeed, which has caused many burnouts by junior year. Although they have the Wellness Center for emotional support, nothing of substance is done to prevent the overwhelmingly large amount of students that cannot sustain the unnecessary intensity of this school. Finally, the performing arts program is greatly under-resourced and is in need of better facilities (classrooms, music stands, instruments, etc.) Westminster is a great school overall, providing students with a brilliant education, with some flaws. Senior : Milton is an amazing school that offers challenging academics while also providing students a plethora of resources when they need extra support. The smaller classes really allows for students to meet with teachers one-on one when struggling, peer tutors are readily available throughout the school year, and the academic skills center is staffed with learning specialist who can help student from anything from time management to grammar help. The opportunities Milton offers are as expansive inside the classroom as they are out! Read 129 Reviews
Parent : As a parent of current poly students, I can attest to the quality of the teachers, faculty, student body and facilities. Poly is academically rigorous and sets high expectations for its students while providing the scholastic and emotional support needed to ensure every student has an opportunity to succeed. Poly also does an admirable job incorporating character building into their curriculum. Compassion, service, self awareness, diversity, inclusion, tolerance and integrity are all modeled and reinforced throughout the campus at every grade level. Poly can of course continue to work on its diversity by reaching out to the larger Los Angles community to attract a more broad coalition of students. That said, we could not be happier. Most importantly our children (middle and high school) feel happy, proud, challenged, accepted, supported and seen. Read 102 Reviews
Alum : St. John’s goes above and beyond to prepare you for college and the workforce. However, with such a future-focused mentality, the school’s culture attracts a lot of perfectionistic personalities, which tend to create an anxious learning environment that is largely dependent on the opinions of others. This environment is actively combatted by the majority of faculty members, so it really doesn’t come from the school itself, rather the people it attracts. I am beyond grateful to have had the privilege of attending such an academic school, but I would love to see a less stressful, more inclusive environment being fostered by both the school itself and its community in the future. Alum : I was a student at Chapin for K to 8th grade. Though I graduated HS over 10 years ago, it is heartwarming to know that Chapin hasn't waned in excellence and has gotten even more awesome technology and has been expanding. When I attended, I felt it was the perfect size. Not sure if grades usually still have around 50 people in them, but I hope they do. I am hoping to visit some time soon, though I might have to find a teacher I had back then to vouch for me, haha. I look super different. I hope they still have the delicious chocolate croissants! Also, I hope I'm able to work in the Lower School in the next few years. Read 76 Reviews
Senior : The teachers and extracurricular activities at the Lab School are top-notch. All of the faculty and staff truly care about their field of study, as well as the wellbeing of their students. Unfortunately, there is a large disconnect between the students and the school administration. Most students and teachers feel that they cannot trust the administration because it is evident that the administration will do anything in its power to reduce costs, even at the expense of the students' education and mental health. Parent : Prior to our daughter entering high school we researched the top college prep schools in the nation. Cranbrook schools fit our family and daughter's need's considering academics, sports and club opportunities. She is now a Junior boarder, a member of the resident house council working with new Freshman and Sophomores and enjoying the diverse student population of international and local attendees. Her teachers have are above and beyond, they work one on one with the students as most faculty live on campus. Her grades reflect the support each student receives even during the Covid pandemic with online and in-person classes. The administration staff has worked tirelessly through the past summer and holiday closures to maintain the level of education provide without endangering the health and welfare of the students and teacher's. The school has not recorded one Covid infection from on campus students. Yes, the school has had offsite infections reported by parent's of day students only. Read 236 Reviews
Parent : My daughter has had an outstanding high school experience at Head-Royce - I can't imagine a better school for her. I remember thinking, at my initial parent tour, what a remarkably smart, involved, caring, switched on group of adults running this school and inspiring and supporting the kids - this first impression was spot on. The teachers, administrators, deans, advisors, counselors, librarians, etc are superb. The overall vibe of the kids seems great too - lively and fun but also really bright, hardworking and engaged. Go Jayhawks! Read 64 Reviews
Alum : As a recent grad who went to GFS for 7 years, I can say that the school changed my life. No, it wasn't "perfect", but I love it and will be forever thankful for going there. Each student at GFS has a unique personality, and the environment is such that people can express themselves and not only be accepted, but embraced by the whole community. It is definitely more of a humanities centered school, but students will learn valuable deep thinking and analysis skills that will carry them through their lives. In addition, the teachers are incredibly accessible. If you ask them about an assignment, or even just want advice, they are respectful, helpful, and caring. Even after graduation, teachers still reach out and ask how I am doing. I also appreciate the creative nature of the school. J-Term changed my life in so many positive ways! Over the four years, J-term allowed me to start a new school club, student teach, and participate in two school exchanges. GFS is such an amazing school. Read 73 Reviews
Freshman : I came to BB&N last year and it has been the best decision of my life! All the teachers truly make connections with the students and want to help each person succeed. The community is outstanding, and being at BB&N has helped me expand my comfort zone and I became interested in lots of extracurriculars that I wouldn't have access to at my previous school. I would without a doubt recommend BB&N to anyone looking for an accepting, balanced, and truly unbelievable high school experience! Read 61 Reviews
Parent : I have two children in the Lower School and have been extremely satisfied with our experience. One of my kids is more "academically-inclined" than the other and I can honestly say that they both receive support to fit both of their learning styles. I can see my older one stretching and asserting himself more this year from the encouragement of his teachers and I see the little one, while she needs more help, feels equally confident and not at all stressed about needing/getting more support. And, bottom line (what matters most to me)–they are both happy and thriving. Yes, it is an "academic" school with a challenging curriculum, but both of my children participate in a number of sports and activities and keeping up hasn't been an issue. I know many families choose this school for the academic rigor and are quite pleased, but as a parent that's not laser-focused on academic results, I can say that it is a terrific school for our family!
