I gave this 5 stars, because I have not been disappointed in this series. I have been a fan of James Patterson for alot of years, starting with " Along came a Spider" and " Kiss the Girls". And have been hooked since, the library couldn't get his books fast enough for me to read them. Private' s PI' s do alot of different security work and BOY OH do they get in predictaments. I have read this in 4 1/2 days I wanted to find out what was next and find myself up almost all night trying to find a place to stop. Then I find myself during the picking it up trying to watch a program on TV and read and the reading wins. Jack the owner of Private is something, but PETER KNIGHT in London has a lot going on but dang he did a excellent job and the team he had to work with Outstanding! The one that got on my last nerve is the reporter POPE! I was surprised she didn't get her reckless butt hurt in this book. Although she did help with clues. You won't be disappointed

I picked up Private Games after reading most of Patterson's other books and in fact enjoying the Private series. What I quickly found is that the original Private book was by far the best and the rest have been sort of ok but not great knock-offs of the original. This book is not surprisingly about a man who attempts and is succesful in creating havoc at the upcoming London Olympic games. Without giving away too much of the plot I will say that he does have a lot of help in the form of some bad individuals he had met in a previous NATO protection life. Peter Knight--who is employed by Private in London--is engaged to help bring down this man who calls himiself by an obscure Greek god's name--Cronus. In addition to Knight's problems stopping further death at the games, he has young twins who keep him on his toes and are in fact an interesting sub-plot addition to the story. A young newspaper reproter named Karen Pope is brought into the story by no doing of her own as Cronus continues to send her warnings of impending death and doom at the games. The book ends in what I would call very typical fashion with a duel to the end and a victor. I thought the book was ok but not great. It was not as fast paced as most Patterson thrillers and lacked a certain bite found in most of his other books.

I loved this book. It kept me glued to it the full time that i was reading it. I love James Patterson books of. All kinds. I can’t wait to start my next book.

I was ready to give up on James Patterson as the last few books I read of his have been paltry. This offering was better but was hardly an edge-of-the-seat read. The pace was good but there was no real suspense or anything that kept me guessing. I was disappointed in the ending, the villain seemed like a cop-out and a last minute ditch attempt at a twist in the tail. Unfortunately it didn't work out as intended. Also the final take-down of the villain was ridiculous and made no sense. Understandably it was meant to build suspense and allow the main character to be the ultimate hero, but it really was unrealistic. The book does make for a nice relaxing read with its short chapters and easy to read prose. The plot is also easy to keep track of if you break off for a few days. I doubt that I will read another book in the Private series though. If I could I would give this 2.5 stars but since I can't, 3 it is.

I truly have enjoyed all the Private novels by James Patterson. I love the Australian accent, and the reader had a great one! I love books on CD, as I work from home, so after work, I got to the lake, and listen to my books as I watch the beauty around me. I suggest all his books to anyone. The man can write, and takes you right in to the action!

This James Patterson Private book in the series is SUPER! I could not put it down! I highly recommend it....Just be sure you set aside time to get hooked reading it!! Happy reading! lavkc

Disappointing to say the least.

James Patterson really screwed up here, both with the continuing storyline of the series and gross factual errors in this book. 1. Why kill off the Dan Carter character from the previous book ? That was totally unnecessary and irrelevant to the plot of Private Games. 2. Bodyguards etc.are not permitted to carry firearms in the UK, they have no special dispensation from such laws. 3. As several other reviewers have pointed out, England does not participate in the Olympics, so it is impossible to have them playing in the football competition. What could have been a really good addition to the Private series is ruined by such nonsense.

Gripping Read

As a citizen of England and proud of the performance we displayed during the Olympic Games I was glad I read this novel after the event. If I had read the novel before the Olympics then I think I would have been constantly worried that the games could have been compromised, especially with the security issues that came to light shortly before the games started. However the writer managed to keep the plot engaging without making specific references to the mainstream athletes that took part in the real games although it would be easy to link the characters to real athletes. The plot was very believable and well written. It evolves from an ex-soldier/athlete who believes the modern games are more about greed than winning and plans to wipe out the games in their current form. I found myself gripped from the start and although there are some improbable escapes from the main character (Peter Knight), but this is common for this type of novel. Plenty of twists to keep you guessing all the way through to the end.

Brilliant new series of books.

I have always enjoyed reading the books of James Patterson. He keeps me enthralled from the first to last chapter. While a little romance raises it's head, I do not have graphic sexual scenes making me jump pages. I do realise to be true to life sex has a place in stories but not constantly reading graphic descriptions every few pages only makes my enjoyment of reading this series bloom. I cannot wait to buy the next in the series and get copied down and whipped away to various cities and characters.

A good fantasy

For realism this book is hardly worth one star, but as an escapist fantasy I'm rating it 4. The Olymic Games are on in London and a man with brain damage and 3 female Serbian war criminals are on a mission to destroy them as unworthy of the original Olympian ideals. How they got to London and managed to kill or maim so many athletes and officials is imaginative and coincidences abound - I have to admit to laughing at a lot of it although I don't think it's intended as a Die Hard etc. parody BUT it kept me hooked as I wanted to know what was coming next and I felt the tension at certain points. It won't win any prizes but if you approach it in the right way, i.e. go with the flow and don't expect even a modicum of realism it's an easy way to pass a few hours.

Why did I bother?

I nearly always try to finish a book that I have started to read but I do wonder why I bothered to struggle through Private Games. It was poorly written and so implausible as to be laughable. The basic idea of the plot could have been used to produce a thrilling book but the characters were not developed and the plot had so many convenient and completely unrealistic turns that the reader is left with the view that the author did not plan the book but made it up as he went along. My recommendation - don't waste your time.
