Wildlife photography is an endeavor that requires patience and time. Yesterday, we hosted a couple for a six-hour private tour with the specific purpose of finding moose. While we had some great opportunities to photograph Trumpeter swans with their cignets and Red necked grebes with chicks on their backs, it was not until the fourth hour that we found a young bull moose who was patient and moving around a bit, giving us lots of opportunities for diverse photo opportunities. #anchorage #alaska #wildlife #moose #bigwildlife #phototours #privatetours #wildlifephotography #NikonZ9 #NikonUSA #nikonpro

Totem poles are a cultural part of many indigenous people of Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, and British Columbia.

Totem poles are sculptures carved typically from Western Red Cedar or other large trees. The figures on the poles are not like gods to be worshipped. The totem poles represent the traits and characteristics of each clan or story personifies. The figures found on these poles include the raven (a symbol of the Creator), the killer whale (a symbol of strength), the eagle (representing peace and friendship), the Thunderbird, the bear, the wolf, the beaver, and the frog. It's interesting to note that totem poles are still created today, even though it's been part of history for many decades.

6.24.22: We entered Alaska’s Endicott Arm this morning shortly before breakfast. It was a calm and clear morning, so calm that the blows of three humpback whales swimming near shore were easy to spot. We followed from a distance, and soon one of the whales turned and we were able not only to get a great view, but to hear the powerful exhalations as well. Our mammal sightings continued with a plentitude of harbor seals hauled out on the ice. As we waited for our cruise up to the glacier, we spotted a mountain goat casually walking around the shrubby alders high above. The cruise up to the glacier was filled with seals, glacial ice, hot chocolate, and enough sunshine to give us rosy cheeks from a Southeast Alaskan sunburn.
