This Privacy Policy explains how SteepNote ("the App", "we", "our") handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy. Please read this document carefully.

1. Overview

SteepNote is a tea brewing companion that combines steeping timers, brewing guides and a personal tasting journal. The App allows you to start a steep timer for any tea, browse offline brewing guides (water temperature, steep time, leaf amount and re-steeps), log the cups you brew, keep a tasting journal with star ratings and flavor notes, mark favorite teas, and view weekly statistics about your tea habits. The App is designed with an offline-first approach: all data you enter is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:

• Personal identification information (name, email, phone number, etc.)
• Account credentials or authentication tokens
• Device location or GPS coordinates (the App never requests location access)
• Usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioral telemetry
• Advertising identifiers or tracking cookies
• The content of your tasting notes, logged cups, ratings or preferences

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is stored only on your device using Android's DataStore, and is never sent to any external server:

• Logged cups: which tea you brewed and when (used for the daily count, streaks and statistics).
• Tasting journal: tea name, tea type, star rating, flavor-note tags, brew method and your free-text note.
• Favorites: which brewing guides you have starred.
• Preferences: theme (System/Light/Dark), temperature unit (Celsius/Fahrenheit), keep-screen-on-while-steeping, and steep-ready chime, stored via Android DataStore.

The brewing guides themselves are bundled inside the App as static reference content and contain no personal data.

All locally stored data remains under your full control. You may delete individual tasting entries by tapping the delete icon, or remove all data at once by uninstalling the App.

4. Third-Party Services — None

The App does not communicate with any third-party services. All functionality — timers, guides, journal and statistics — works entirely offline. This section does not apply.

5. Permissions

The App does not request any runtime permissions. It functions entirely offline and does not require INTERNET, location, camera, microphone, contacts, or notification permissions.

The App does NOT request:

• Location (GPS, coarse, background)
• Contacts
• Phone state or identifiers
• SMS or call log access
• Camera or microphone

6. No Advertising or Analytics SDKs

SteepNote does not integrate any advertising networks, analytics SDKs (such as Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Amplitude, Mixpanel, or similar), or third-party tracking libraries. There are no ads of any kind within the App.

7. Children's Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. Since the App collects no personal information from any user, it is safe for use by all ages.

8. Data Security

Because all data is stored locally on your device, the security of that data depends on the security measures provided by the Android operating system and your device (screen lock, encryption, etc.). We do not control how Android handles on-device storage security, but we do not expose any data to external parties.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in an updated version of this document bundled with a new App release. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
