Privacy Policy for Screen Text Extractor

Anuradha Herath

Screen Text Extractor ("we", "us", "our", or "the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

## Data Collection & Usage

### What We Collect

- **Screenshots**: Your selected screen area is captured locally in your browser only during OCR processing; images are not stored persistently

- **Extracted Text & History**: Successful OCR results are automatically saved to your browser's local storage (`chrome.storage.local`) so you can review, search, and manage them from the History tab

- **History Metadata**: Each saved extraction includes the extracted text, a short preview, timestamp, and whether it has been pinned — stored only locally on your device

### What We DON'T Collect

- ❌ Personal information (name, email, IP address)

- ❌ Browsing history or visited URLs

- ❌ Cookies or tracking data

- ❌ Keyboard input or other sensitive data

- ❌ Data transmitted to any external server

### How Data is Processed

- **Local Processing**: All OCR (Optical Character Recognition) happens locally in your browser using Tesseract.js — no cloud API involved

- **No Cloud Transmission**: Your screenshots and extracted text are **NEVER sent** to external servers

- **Local Storage Only**: Extraction history is stored exclusively in `chrome.storage.local` on your own device; it never leaves your browser

- **Clipboard Access**: When you click "Copy to Clipboard", text is copied directly to your local clipboard

- **Export**: If you choose to export history, a JSON file is downloaded to your local disk — nothing is uploaded anywhere

## Your Rights

- You can clear a single extraction from the History tab using the delete button

- You can clear all stored history at once via the "Clear All" button in the Settings tab inside the extension

- You can export your history as a local JSON file at any time

- You can uninstall the extension anytime — this removes all associated data from `chrome.storage.local`

- You have full control over which webpage areas you select

## Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the version date below.

**Last Updated**: April 2026

**Version**: 1.1
