Privacy Policy for Mind Quest
This Privacy Policy explains how Mind Quest ("the Game", "we", "our") handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy. Please read this document carefully.
## 1. Overview
Mind Quest is a trivia quiz game featuring multiple-choice questions across History, Mythology, Science, Geography, and General Knowledge categories. The Game offers 45 progressive levels across three worlds, daily challenges, an achievement system, and detailed stats tracking. Mind Quest is designed with an offline-first approach: all game progress and preferences are stored exclusively on your device. Questions are fetched from the Open Trivia Database (opentdb.com) over HTTPS and cached locally for offline play.
## 2. Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
* Personal identification information (name, email, phone number, etc.)
* Account credentials or authentication tokens
* Device location or GPS coordinates (the Game does not request location permissions)
* Usage analytics, crash reports, or behavioral telemetry
* Advertising identifiers or tracking cookies
* Your gameplay patterns, session times, or in-game choices
## 3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
The following data is stored only on your device using Android's Room database and DataStore, and is never sent to any external server:
* **Game progress**: current level, unlocked levels per world, stars earned per level (1-3), best score per level.
* **Highscores**: best score overall, best streak, best combo achieved.
* **Question cache**: trivia questions fetched from Open Trivia DB are stored locally for up to 24 hours to enable offline play and reduce network usage. No personal data is associated with cached questions.
* **Achievements**: which of the 20 achievements are unlocked and their completion dates.
* **Daily Challenge**: date of last completed daily challenge, current daily streak count (for streak bonus tracking).
* **Player Profile**: nickname and selected avatar — entered voluntarily by the player and stored only on-device.
* **Game History**: recent game results (date, score, level, win/loss) used for the Stats dashboard — stored locally, never transmitted.
* **Preferences**: theme (Light/Dark/System), sound effects on/off, haptic feedback on/off, difficulty level (Easy/Normal/Hard) — stored via Android DataStore.
All locally stored data remains under your full control. You may reset all game progress via Settings → Reset Progress, or uninstall the Game to remove all data permanently.
## 4. Third-Party Services — Open Trivia Database
The Game retrieves trivia questions from the Open Trivia Database API (opentdb.com), a free crowdsourced trivia service. When fetching questions, a standard HTTPS request is made containing only: category ID, difficulty level, and number of questions requested. No personal data, device identifiers, or user information are transmitted. Retrieved questions are cached locally and reused for up to 24 hours. ## 5. Permissions
The Game requests the following permissions:
* **`android.permission.INTERNET`** — solely to fetch trivia questions from opentdb.com. No personal data is transmitted.
* **`android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE`** — to check connectivity before attempting a question fetch; if offline, the local cache is used.
The Game does NOT request:
* Location (GPS, coarse, background)
* Camera or microphone
* Contacts
* Phone state or identifiers
* SMS or call log access
* Photos, media, or file access
## 6. No Advertising or Analytics SDKs
Mind Quest does not integrate any advertising networks (AdMob, Unity Ads, AppLovin, etc.), analytics SDKs (Firebase Analytics, GameAnalytics, Amplitude, etc.), or third-party tracking libraries. There are no ads of any kind within the Game, and no in-app purchases.
## 7. Children's Privacy
The Game does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13. Since the Game collects no personal information from any user, it is safe for use by all ages.
## 8. Data Security
All game progress and user-entered data (nickname, avatar preference) is stored locally on your device. The security of that data depends on the security measures provided by the Android operating system and your device (screen lock, encryption, etc.). We do not expose any data to external parties beyond the anonymous question-fetch requests described in Section 4.
## 9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in an updated version of this document bundled with a new Game release. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Game after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
