Privacy Policy: Duplicate Finder for Google Photos
Last updated: October 12, 2026
Duplicate Finder for Google Photos ("the extension") helps you find and remove duplicate photos and videos in your Google Photos library, and count or list the items in your library, albums and trash. This policy explains what data the extension handles and what it does with it.
The short version
- Everything runs inside your own browser.
- The extension does not send your photos, file names or any other information to the developer or to any third party.
- The only service the extension talks to is Google Photos itself, using the account you are already signed in with, and only to do what you ask.
- There are no analytics, no tracking, no advertising and no accounts.
What the extension reads
When you use it on photos.google.com, the extension reads, from your Google Photos library:
- small thumbnail images of your photos and videos, to compare how they look;
- item details such as file name, date taken, upload date, dimensions, file size, storage used, quality setting and favorite status, to group duplicates, decide which copy to keep and show you this information;
- the list of items in an album, your library, your archive, your favorites or your trash, when you ask the extension to count or export them.
What the extension stores
- On your computer only, in your browser's storage for photos.google.com: a compact "fingerprint" of each photo's appearance, so later scans are faster, and your last scan results, so you can reopen them.
- In the extension's own browser storage: the date the extension was installed.
None of this leaves your browser. You can delete it at any time by removing the extension and clearing site data for photos.google.com in your browser settings.
What the extension changes
The extension only changes your Google Photos library when you explicitly ask it to:
- moving the copies you selected to the Google Photos trash (they can be restored from there for 60 days);
- marking a kept copy as a favorite when the copy you remove was a favorite.
What the extension shares
Nothing. Your data is not sold, transferred to third parties, used for advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes. The developer never receives your data and no human reads it.
The use of information received from Google Photos complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Downloads you request
When you click "Export CSV" or "Export list", the extension creates a file on your computer with the listed item details. That file is yours and is not sent anywhere.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will also be mentioned in the extension's store listing.
