Privacy Policy for Fernwell

Last updated: 13 August 2026

Fernwell ("the app") is a plant care journal for Android. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: the app collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

None. We do not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal data. The app has no user accounts, no registration, no login and no contact forms.

INFORMATION THE APP STORES ON YOUR DEVICE

Everything you enter — plant names, rooms, pot sizes, care history, journal entries and app settings — is written to a single file in the app's private storage area on your device (fernwell-library.json). This file is readable only by the app. It is never uploaded. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

PERMISSIONS

The app declares no Android permissions. It has no internet, location, camera, contacts, microphone or storage permissions. It contains no networking code, so it cannot send data off the device even in principle.

THIRD PARTIES

The app contains no advertising SDKs, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking libraries of any kind. No third party receives any information from the app.

EXPORT AND IMPORT

You can export your library to a file of your choosing, and import one back. This uses Android's standard document picker: the app only reads or writes the single file you select, at the moment you select it. What happens to an exported file afterwards is under your control.

BACKUP

If you have enabled Android's own backup service in your device settings, Android may include the app's data file in your device backup. That process is operated by Google under Google's privacy policy, not by us, and we have no access to it. You can disable backup for the app in your Android settings.

CHILDREN

The app is safe for all ages and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13, because it does not collect information at all.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If the app ever changes what it does with data, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change.
